1968 AMC AMX
This 1968AMC AMX has spent its life in Northern California with three owners. It is an early-production Go Package car that is powered by the top of the line 390ci V8 backed by a 4-speed manualtransmission. Only 6,725 AMX were builtin 1968. Purchased in1995 with 39k miles and used sparingly since, with just over 41k miles now indicated. Recent work includes a brake overhaul with a new master cylinder, brake booster and rubber lines. The suspension was also freshened with new rubber along with a newexhaust and fresh tires.
Originally shipped from Kenosha with Scarab Gold paint andblack stripes, the car was reportedly painted black by the dealership when new in orderto satisfy customer demands resulting from ablack car being used in the promotional literature. Go Package cars came with the optional dualracing stripes as well as Magnum 500 wheels, here wearing the correct original AMC center caps and anew set of BFGoodrich redlines.

Period loop carpeting is fitted throughout, thedoor panels and the ribbed headliner are crisp and original.A factory wood-look steering wheel is fitted, and recessed gauges include an early 120 mph speedometer rather than the140 mph version fitted to later cars.
Other early features include coarse-weave seat beltsand a standard floor shifter rather than the Hurst unit provided starting in1969. ThefactoryAM radio has been refreshedwith a new speaker and antenna. The number plaquereads 00464 and is found in the early location on the glovebox door rather than on the center dash.
American Motors’390ci V8s were equipped withforged internals from the factory as well as four-barrel carburetors for originalratings of315 horsepowerand425 lb-ft of torque. Painted in Caravelle metallic blue, this exampleis paired to a factory Borg Warner T10 4-speed manualtransmission. The Go Package includedaheavy duty radiator and cooling system, anda fresh dual exhaust system has recently been fitted.
The Twin Grip positraction rear end is equippedwith 4.10 gears rather than its original 3.54setup. The Go Package included power disc brakes andstiffer suspension with heavy duty leaf springs.
