1990 Spider Graduate 2.0 Liter Series 3.5
“Superleggera”
Have more fun than Dustin Hoffman…with more power!
A well sorted and very unique 1990 Spider Graduate with complete service history, manuals, tools, original window sticker and unused Pirelli spare tire. Perfect option for those that appreciate the differences between this one-year only model and other Spiders including the Graduate’s lighter weight and better power band afforded by the Series 4 Motronic engine. A nice alternative if you desire a more robust driving experience than most Alfa Spiders, Fiats, Porsche 356, 914, early 911, BMWs, MG, Miata, Austin Healey, Triumph and many other classic sports cars. Alfa Romeo’s racing heritage comes alive in this raw version, especially as you climb the rev range.
· A bit more “raw” than most spiders with a noticeable performance difference. A more enjoyable drive than any S1, S2, S3 or S4 Spider I’ve driven. With a more linear power band along with greater low-end & mid range torque. It’s as or more rewarding drive compared to many mid and high dollar Alfa's & other high value sports cars. The combination of reduced weight and the responsive Motronic engine along with the body style make it a unique Spider. Produced in late '89 for the U.S. '90 model year before the switch to the full S4 model and prior to the excesses piled upon the S4.
· Bosch Motronic Fuel Injection - improved vs. earlier Spica & L Jetronic (used thru ‘89). Higher compression, better power delivery & improved electric dual fan aluminum radiator (no stolen cavallinos & improved cooling vs. pre-‘90 models. This was the first year of the onboard diagnostic system which reduces the guesswork of servicing - a modern feature most Spider and vintage car owners wish they had!
· Rare model: Last year for the Graduate model & classic Series 3 body, only year for the classic S3 body & S4 engine combination - unlike full S4 models - there is no power steering and no airbags - last of the line of the pure Alfa Spider.
· No A/C, classic roll up windows & side vents, manual steering, manual seats (superb adjustment controls - you’ll want to move the seat just to use them!
· Power mirrors
· Modern Pioneer stereo (detachable face) with digital inputs, CD player & Sirius – Pininfarina hideaway plate (included) will need modification to fit over the new unit.
· Extensively sorted with significant recent service - one of the nicest you'll come across.
· Service history, owner’s & service manuals, Alfa Atlas, tools & original window sticker!
· Two (2) sets of original keys, including dealer Alfa key chain
· Alfa Quad racing logo is on both sides (removable)
· Intact factory undercoat + dealer Ziebarted doors, trunk, etc.
· New touch up paint bottle & Alfa Romeo license plate cover (great for car shows)
· Sporting the original dealer sticker on back plate (driver side) - cool kitsch
· Original unused Pirelli spare with nubs still on the tire – never loses air
· Vintage stainless steel Alfa hubcaps on original wheels (shown) & set of very rare original hubcaps with custom painted 3D logo included recently refinished & transforms the car from outlaw to business suit in minutes.
· More rewarding and practical than high value Alfa's, other Spiders & many other sports cars
While I am confident this is one of the better Spiders you’ll come across, it is far from perfect. There are paint flaws, minor scratches and dings - easy work for a PDR specialist (or leave them to keep your comfort level in parking lots). The top is original and has had some repair work but appears new. The driver’s seat has two repairable breaks along the seams and there are a couple tears about an inch long. It has won awards and garnered tons of attention at car shows despite the flaws. Opportunity to obtain a great example well below total investment that's ready for a winding road!
