1990 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce
Two owner, rust free, outstanding condition inside and out, low miles. This car needs nothing. Runs and looks perfect. Even the air conditioning works. Bargain Price!
Up for sale is my beloved black Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce that I have owned for the past ten years. This car has no rust and has never had any rust. It has always been a southern USA car (Tennessee and North Carolina). This car has never been in an accident or fender bender. The body is perfect. The previous owner bought this car for his wife and she used it as a daily driver for a few years. Then eventually they used it just for weekend runs. Always garage kept. Since I have owned the Spider it has always been in my garage and covered. I drive it once or twice per week for a few fun miles only if the weather is clear. Since I have owned the car it has never even been out in the rain. Over the years I have never had any problems with this car. It always runs just perfect. There are no hidden surprises with this one, it is a genuine, great condition, very loved original car that has always been maintained.
I have service and maintenance records dating back to 1992 and these are included in a nice binder. I ran the AutoCheck report September 21st 2017 and this vehicle rated a very high score of 82. No accidents, title or odometer issues. The complete report will be shared if the buyer wishes.
Condition:
Exterior: As mentioned there is no rust, there are no dents or heavy scratches on the body. When I purchased the car it had the original paint but because of age had started to show some light scratches/fading. I had the car re-painted by European Auto works in 2009. Pretty easy job since the body was already perfect. EAW is a very high end shop here in Greensboro that often restores Porches, Mercedes, Ferrari, etc. The finish turned out beautifully and still looks fantastic. The door and panel gaps are all perfect. The paint finish is excellent. The car has never been in an accident or had any body work. I personally would rate the exterior of the car near a perfect 10 but that is just my opinion. The underside of the car is clean with no rust or corrosion anywhere.
The canvas top is in excellent condition without any tears. The back plastic window is very clear with only some light fine surface scratches. There is a very small (1/2”) area at the bottom of the piping where the top meets there door where the piping has started to deteriorate. See pictures. This may be the original canvas top that came with the car when new but I’m not absolutely sure. I have not replaced the top since I have owned the vehicle.
All lamps/lenses are clear and everything works (signals, lights, hazards, wipers, etc). Original black wiper blades were replaced with new chrome units a couple of years ago. Wheels are near perfect, very clean without any scrapes. Uniroyal tires are like new with about 95% of the tread left. Power windows and power mirrors work perfect. A/C works perfect. Car has a manual radio antenna.
Interior: When I purchased the car the carpet was in pretty good condition but has some dirt and minor wear. I purchased a new factory carpet set from World Upholstery and had it professionally installed here in Greensboro. The carpet condition is perfect. A few years after having the interior carpet replace I bought a new factory trunk carpet set from World Upholstery and had it installed. The trunk carpet is also like new.
The seats in the car are original and still look overall very good. The seat bottom and backs are in very good condition with no rips or tears. On the outer side of the driver seat there is a small abrasion mark where the seat lever has rubbed against the lower outside part of the driver’s seat. There is also a small wear spot on the edge of the driver’s seat. On the back corner of the passenger seat there is a very small area (about 1/2”) where the seam is starting to separate. See pictures. Should be a very inexpensive fix if the buyer chooses to do so. I am a stickler for originality so I never could convince myself to replace the original seats she was born with.
After several years of ownership the driver’s side inner door card started to show some wear. I purchased a new set of door cards in black from Centerline and installed on both the driver and passenger side doors. The door cards are now perfect. I still have the original door cards and these will be included with the sale if the buyer wishes to have them. I did not re-install the speaker boxes to the door cards since the rear speakers are adequate and without the speaker boxes the car has a little more leg room. I am 6’2” so a little extra leg space is nice at times. The speaker boxes have been saved and will be included in the sale if the buyer wishes. I replaced the original black plastic steering wheel with a Luissi wood rim wheel. It looks much nicer than the original and is just slightly smaller in diameter to give more leg room. The original steering wheel will be included in the sale if the buyer wishes to have it. The car has a Kenwood AM/FM/CD player that works perfect. I still have the original AM/FM/Cassette player if the buyer wishes to have it.
The Dash. When I purchased the car the dash was in perfect condition. Approximately a year ago I noticed a crack had developed between one of the dash top vents and the windshield. Very common for Alfa’s since over time the foam below the outer surface tends to harden and shrink. I purchased a brand new complete dashboard from Vick Autosports for $527 and had it professionally replaced. $665 for the installation. This new dash is probably one of my favorite aspects of this car. It will NEVER crack or get damaged. I still have the original dash and it is included in the sale if the buyer wishes to have it.
Mechanics:
I have always had this car serviced at regular intervals and any suggestions by the mechanics over the years I have taken care of. Foreign Accents in Greensboro and BIF Motors in Mebane NC are the only shops I have trusted to work on this car. The car shifts well with no grinding that I can tell. Engine runs clean and has excellent compression and oil pressure. I have never had to add oil in between service visits. Here is a list of work done on the car since my ownership besides normal service such as oil changes and tune-ups (my mechanic always laughs when he changes the oil since it always looks like new).

My reason for selling the car. I am getting a little later in my life and I now have the funds to buy other things. I plan to buy either a restored Alfa GTV, old MG or perhaps a new 4C. I only have space for one toy in my garage. But if I have to keep this Spider I’m ok with that too. My wife will only let me have one play toy.
I have tried to accurately describe the condition and history of the car as best I can and in my own opinion. It is up to the buyer to inspect the car and make their own evaluation if he or she feels this is necessary. There is no warranty or guarantee that comes with the sale of the car.
