1971 Volvo Other Additional Info:

Up for auction is my 1971 Volvo 1800e, 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive. I purchased this car in September 2015, intending to restore it — the last four pictures are from when I purchased the car in 2015.
When I bought the car, I thought it mostly needed a replacement rear quarter panel, battery box, driver's side floor pan, and rocker panels. The front seats needed to be recovered, new door cards, new carpeting, and new pads for the dash. Although the car had sat for many years, with fresh gasoline it fired right up and the engine ran strong with good compression (165-170) in all four cylinders. It shifted well through all gears, and the brakes were functioning.
The odometer reads 57,605 miles, which I thought was original mileage when I purchased it, but now I doubt that it is. Although the speedometer works, the 1800 was notorious for failing speedometers, and I believe this was a replacement for the original.
After stripping out the entire interior, and removing all the trim and glass (all parts are bagged and tagged, for ease of putting back!), I soda blasted the car, and this is when I realized I might possibly be in over my head...
After getting through about five layers of paint, I started getting to the body filler. There was A LOT of body filler. And under the body filler were patch panels that were poorly done. Except for the roof and hood, there wasn't a panel on the car that didn't need replacement.
Now, all of the body panels can be bought, either from Volvo, or Wolf Steel, or elsewhere. But when I bought the car, I had access to a body shop, lifts, and all the equipment I'd need for restoration. I no longer have that access, and I sure can't fix this in my garage. Honestly, the extent of work necessary might make this a parts car ... the good thing is that all the parts are there! The car is complete.
I have the title ... somewhere. In the last two years, I have misplaced it. I will do my best to find it before the auction ends.
