1974 Volkswagen Thing Additional Info:

Just completed restoration of a 1974 VW Thing. I am retired and restoration is my hobby. I don't have to make money at this, I'm happy to break even, so the NO RESERVE auction is started at my direct cost (excluding my labor). Really love this and considered keeping to tow behind my RV, but my wife WILL NOT learn to drive manual shift.
Body
All original metal body disassembled, sanded down to metal, and two stage paint /clearapplied using the new Jeep lime green (my wife calls it chartreuse), Interior floors where textured (bed liner stuff) then color applied over that. Nothing left out, including trunk, motor compartment, dash, doors, windshield, etc. All was disassembled and painted correctly. Completely replaced all seals and rubber on car.
Interior
Original seats with new padding and custom covers, front and back. Coco mats used on floors front and back. All gauges and lighting work. New top installed on fresh black painted frame.
I didn'tinstall a radio, left that up tonew owners preference. But I did install a dealer option radio face plate under the dash which I found.
Engine
The engine and transmission were in great shape, so I didn't rebuild. I had the engine stripped to the cases and cleaned, and powder coated trim metal black. Then reassembled using all new seals, gaskets, and screw kit. All transmission needed was new front seal. New axle boots and engine seal to body. Used original oil bath air cleanerwith new hoses. And installed the original style muffler with pipes coming through bumper (more expensive option but correct).
All new brakes, ball joints, tie rods, and shocks. Tires were good and original moon hubcaps.
Starts, runs and drives great. Steering got a little tight after ball joints were installed and mechanic says it just needs to be driven a little bit to loosen them up.
All receipts and detailed itemized excel spread sheet go with car, and add up to $15,077 spent (excluding my time). So that's the start price.
Bid with confidence, I am a 100% positive seller!!
Note: Georgia does not issue titles for this age of vehicleso the sale will be completed with a bill of sale and current registration.
Bonus: I have just installed the roll bar and will add picture when i install padding on it. Looks good!!
