1971 Pontiac Grand Prix SJ Additional Info:

For Sale:

Not exactly a barn find per say, but close enough,

This car was found alongside a service station here in New Jersey

This Indian Chief is a rare Model SJ with the 455 engine and more..

All correct and original 455/325 big-block Pontiac engine & Turbo 400 Transmission

This car doesn’t have a bolt or wire out of place, as original as I ever seen one, and I’ve been doing this for 40 years

Engine and transmission are the original numbers matching to the car right down to the factory chrome valve covers and dual snorkel air filter, YC engine code, 66 on the heads, PW on the transmission all verify this information. The engine runs fine, no smoke or taps, 42K showing on the odometer, probably 142K, but I have no previous history on this.

Clean NJ title

The number above the YC on the engine block does not match the vin as a Chevrolet engine does and is the production run number of the engine. This number does not relate to the vin with a Pontiac, but hey, don’t take my word for it, check it out at PontiacPower.net

12 Bolt (Chevy) open rear which also doesn’t look as if it was ever changed

Factory Air Conditioning, Cornering lamps, interior map lights, trunk light, Power Steering, and Power Front Disc Brakes

Cruise Control, Power bucket seat, Power windows, Power locks, Tilt steering, Gauge cluster (no idiot lights), Sport steering wheel, 8 Track, Power trunk release, under hood Pontiac work light, and 2 more options that I haven’t seen in years, looks like this car had factory air-ride because the compressor is mounted behind the fender, and the double door jam switches usually mean there are Power seat back releases as well.

Needless to say, not all of these may be in working order at the moment, but they are all in place

This is a heavily optioned car worthy of full restoration

The body is straight with only minor rust in the usual places

Floor pans are good and do not need to be worked on

I’ve taken plenty of pics of everything; anyone can see this is one solid Pontiac

No need to replace trunk floor, floor pans, fenders, door skins or quarter panels

Just think of the savings that brings!

Chassis is good, as is all the undercarriage

See the pics

All hood, door, and other body gaps look good, no evidence of any crashes

No bubbling on the vinyl top, so the roof and drip rails wont be rusted though

The interior is complete, nothing missing, nothing hacked up, no boom-box jig-sawed into the dash (hahaha)

Dash pad is good, seats need to be recovered and door panels need to be replaced or restored

Chrome decent, not heavily pitted

Of course, even though this is, in my opinion, in decent condition in comparison to dozens of other unrestored 40-plus year old cars, it needs at least partial restoration to be real nice driver.

Summary:

Yes it is a project to restore, every one on these cars is, but this one does not need anywhere near what so many other muscle cars need

Just think of how many muscle cars have had things like, engines or transmissions changed with incorrect, maybe not even era correct salvage yard units, hacked up or cut up somehow, hot rodded like crazy with all the original (and valuable) accessories literally thrown away, and not to mention cars that have been pieced together either being saved from the junkyard crusher or hammered in severe crashes

This car is not hacked up, jacked up, or screwed up

It has everything it’s supposed to have, so you don’t have to scour the swap meets to find hard to find missing parts

This has everything going for it, it’s a numbers matching car with plenty of bells and whistles

As far as restorations are concerned, this one is a breeze

You can easily spend the same or similar for any other muscle car that needs floors, fenders, doors, quarters and just about everything else!

That said…….

I will not release this car whatsoever until funding has cleared the bank process
