1969 Pontiac Firebird Coupe Additional Info:

1969 Pontiac Firebird Coupe

In 1968 and 1969, Pontiac engineers were busy with a project to get the Firebird Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) ready, which led to the development of the Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. Known as PFST ("Pontiac Firebird Sprint Turismo"), the racing prototype was developed largely by chassis whiz Herb Adams. Powered initially by the OHC six, the PFST project also served as test bed for a small-block (303-cid) V-8, with special tunnel-port cylinder heads. But development problems axed the small-block engine, so a Special Projects committee (including Adams, chief engineer Bill Collins, product planner Ben Harrison, and merchandising master Jim Wagner) turned instead to a potent Firebird with Ram Air 400 V-8 and PFST-type chassis tuning.

For consignment, a tribute car, born with a lesser engine, but nice interior, power steering and brakes, A/C, and now has a larger engine installed. This car rips, but feels safe due to the upgrades, and has the conveniences to boot. Pay tribute now and read on.

Exterior
Cameo white with blue Trans Am stripes, dual cowled hood, rear spoiler and Trans Am badging on the rear spoiler. Firebird badges also are on the car. The body matching front bumper with its chromed beak is right up front. 15-inch rally 2 wheels are all around. Looking just like the Trans Am version of low production.

Interior
Blue custom knit weave vinyl seat inserts with smooth blue vinyl bolsters are seen on the front buckets, and rear bench. Burl wood appliqu is on the center console that houses the automatic shifter and a console box. Blue carpet in good condition floods the floors and has floor mats above it. Dash is original with wood appliqu and deep-set circular gauges. Headliner is dark blue and nice and tight. This car has working A/C.

Drivetrain
Here's the money shot kids, with a sparkling 400ci V8 circa 1971, and it is fed by Holley Sniper electronic fuel Injection. Keeping everything cool is a dual fan cooled aluminum radiator. Backing up this beautiful as well as powerful mill, is a Trans Specialties TH400 3-speed automatic transmission and it is complete with a 2900-3200 stall converter. Also, a 10 bolt posi rear is in place.

Undercarriage
Virtually showroom condition, fully restored and not a mark to speak of. Dual exhaust does not even have any surface rust on it. Nothing but clean black steel. Power front disc and power rear drum brakes are on and independent coil springs up front, and leaf springs on the rear for the suspension. Hotchkiss front and rear sway bars have been added.

Drive-Ability
Lights up immediately, and with EFI is instantly ready to roll. We went for a ride. This car rips. There is no fooling around and after you get it up there, you can bring it back down with power brakes, you can swing it around corners easily with power steering, and all in the comfort of cold blowing A/C. Nice build, very good ride, all be it quick.

Talk about a tribute, this is an academy award winning tribute build all in excellent condition, above below and under the hood. Everywhere you look, you see quality build, and if you turn this car on, you'll hear it too. I'm going to have to praise the accolades with great acclaim within my commendation. Get it while its hot!
