1967 Pontiac GTO Coupe
It was inspired by the Ferrari 250 GTO, and since Ferrari had not patented the name in North America, it was free to use. Although many believe that GTO stands for Gran Turismo Omologato ("grand tourer homologated"), Pontiac enthusiasts contend it stands for "Pontiac Grand Tempest Option".
This snazzy GTO has undergone a 2012 paint and bodywork redux, has the original engine (although with a few add ins) and original transmission. New wiring, and a clean parchment interior, this car is in excellent condition overall.
Exterior
With its dual vertical headlights leading the way, and a small Pontiac "beak" in the middle of the hood, very nice chrome bumpers, stainless rocker panels, hood scoop, and correct badging we are firmly in 1967 muscle car territory. All bathed in Teal, the straight steel panels are minding their gaps very well. 15-inch Torque Thrust wheels in powder coated gray with a chromed hubs are on all 4 corners. We have a car that just may get your goat?
Interior
With a lifetime of handling with "kid" gloves, we are in white interior bliss. Parchment white vinyl on the door panels, parchment white vinyl on the front buckets, parchment white vinyl on the rear bench...well you get the idea! The floor is flooded with very clean black carpet and shows no fading. Upfront the original wood appliqu dash houses the standard gauges with an additional tachometer attached to the steering column, and a trio of extra gauges hanging below the dash. A wood appliqu center console is flanked by the buckets, and contains a Hurst shifter, and more wood appliqu as well as an additional locking storage glove box.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a snazzy 400ci mill, metallic light blue painted block and intake with chromed valve covers, and air cleaner housing. There has been an upgraded cam installed, as well as an MSD ignition. Hoses are all supple and shiny, and no corrosion on any parts is seen. A single 4-barrel Edelbrock carburetor and a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission with a 10-bolt rear make this runner have the ability to get down the road in two shakes of a lambs tail. Also, according to engine and transmission codes, this appears to be the original drivetrain.
Undercarriage
Very clean rust-free frame and floorpans are noted underneath. The 2-1/2-inch stainless steel exhaust runs from stern to bow and is in excellent condition. 4-wheel drum brakes are seen as well as independent coil springs up front, and 4 link with coil springs on the rear for the suspension.
Drive-Ability
Our muscle car aficionado took the wheel and gave a 3 thumbs up to this car as to its drive-ability. It lit right up, idled smoothly, and took off like a bolt of lightning. He reported it handled well, came to a quick stop, and was comfortable to drive. This goat will "butt" in at any chance it gets.
This goat has had a good life, spending its time garaged, and used but then put away nicely. It comes with a shop manual and a car cover. Good exterior paint retaining its shine, a super engine, well done with a new cam, Edelbrock 4-barrel carb, and original drivetrain, we now have a whole different animal in our hallowed halls of Classic Auto Mall.
