1973 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 Additional Info:

Vehicle relisted as prior listing title could not be changed without relisting per Ebay - sorry for any inconvenience.

Selling part of my retirement dream – this was to be my beach vehicle. But as my “boss” has said we are not leaving the Chicago area I won’t be living at the beach for a long time. And she wants the garage space back for her car in the winter.

The FJ:

  • This is a1973 body (October) with a 1975 2F engine and transmission (some consider this engine an upgrade due to better oil handling, and the transmission is the 1975 4 speed vs the 1973 3 speed).
  • Has factory PTO winch (current photos show it removed but it will be reinstalled for new owner.
  • The back jump seats were changed out for a bench seat.
  • It has a role cage, soft top and roof top carrier shown in older photos.
  • There is also what appears to be a 2” lift added to the FJ.

Purchased in 2011 from private owner in Palm Springs CA who stated he purchased from original owner in Nevada. Desert and vehicle painting photos are from the time he was the owner. The FJ has been garage kept since I have owned it, had been a daily driver by the prior owner and I used it as a weekend head turner up until 3 years ago when kids activities kept in garaged year round. Even with it in the garage I get people that stop on the street and want to know about the vehicle. Truly a cult following.

The “issues” as I know them:

  • It will need a new battery as may need a tune up, but that is my guess.
  • The paint is still great in most places, but if you want to turn this in to a show vehicle then you may want to get a couple of spots touched up (shown in photos).
  • One bubble under paint in rear left (shown in photo). Has been there since purchase, has not grown, and is “solid” to the touch.
  • In same photo you can see the gasket between hard top and body. There is some yellow glue from the gasket showing.
  • I recently noticed the steering stabilizer is leaking some fluid on the garage floor (a $50 to $80 part).
  • Driver’s side seat has a hole worn (as shown in photos).

In the photos you will see that the factory plastic dash was replaced with a custom wood one. I have a factory dash it you want to make it look more stock.
