1974 MG MGB Additional Info:

1974 MGB GT

The MGB GT was first introduced in October, 1965. Production of this most unique coupe continued until 1980; though export to the US ceased in 1974. The MGB GT utilized a radical greenhouse designed by Pininfarina and it launched the sporty “hatchback” style. My particular “B” GT is one of only 1,248 produced and exported to the U.S. from September through December of 1974. It has been completely sorted out mechanically by an MG aficionado in 2011, and features the desirable “18V” four-cylinder motor, which was bored .60 thousandths over with a stout 10:1 compression ratio. Early 1963-69 side float SU carburetors were chosen for their performance over the original style to compliment the APT VP12. The camshaft gives acceleration boost at 2000 RPM; head reworked with hardened valve seats, Vernier timing gears, ARP head studs and bolts, K&N filters and Paco long center branch header and Big Bore Exhaust. Oil pressure at running temperature 70#. A robust Laycock four-speed electric-overdrive transmission spins a factory 3.90:1 rear gear that gives it a wonderful boost in getting underway! Its rust and ripple-free body was repainted 10 years ago in Corvette Sandstone and looks quite smashing! Its black vinyl interior received all new door panels and headliner in 2004; while the seats were eventually redone in 2009. To add an extra touch, a new set of four-lug Mini-lite style wheels were selected along with the addition of aluminum two-ear spinners to give it a true sports car look. MGB GT is truly a great automobile to own and drive.
