There's something to be said about all out, no expense spared builds like this one. All the details, the hours put into the styling and idea phase of the design. These builds are deliberate, time consuming, and most of the time absolutely jaw dropping. This very special 1950 Ford F1 is one of those builds. Take in the details of this truck, it's most definitely a far cry from what it was when it left Ford's production plant. There are so many bits and pieces to take in on this thing, and we find more and more of them the more laps we walk around the truck just looking at it. You'll have to forgive us for trying to give you a short, concise run down of the truck in this description. After all, we could scrawl out a 5 page article about this thing, but for the purpose of our marketing that's just not in the cards.
Described to us as a long-term build that was completed by Austin Speed Shop and eventually exhibited at SEMA 2014, displayed in the PPG paints booth. First shown to the public in the booth of one of the largest paint companies in the country, you can be sure that the paint on this truck looks great. It takes a keen eye and looking at the pictures closely to see that the paint is actually matte red on most of the exterior, with gloss red covering a few parts like the front sun visor, running boards, and the WheelSmith wheels. The wood slat bed features stainless steel trim strips, and a small neatly integrated fuel filler.
Don't let the somewhat innocent looks of this curvy, classic truck fool you. There's a monster of an engine under the hood. The Jon Kaase Engines 547ci V8 under the hood actually looks somewhat of a normal size in the gloss red engine bay. The aftermarket accessories, polished accents, custom valve covers, and those 8 trumpets atop the carbs aren't hiding anything. The engine is a very capable powerplant to the tune of 878 horsepower. Not exactly what you'd expect from the docile looks. A TCI built C6 automatic transmission handles gear selection. A Ford 9" rear end with 3.00 posi-traction helps get power to the tires, while 4 wheel disc brakes help slow this classic down. The chassis is a Ford F1 chassis and has been boxed front and rear. Get just the right ride height or stance with the RideTech air ride system that uses Shockwave bags on all four corners.
As you would expect, a show quality interior has been created for this truck. The fairly small cab area is now comfortable and may even be considered plush compared to the old bench seat and huge steering wheel setup. Unlike the F1's usual layout of a body color painted dashboard, this truck has a dark grey metallic dashboard that blends right in with the rest of the black and grey interior. AutoMeter gauges are flanked by a chrome gauge panel which matches the shifter, and chrome accents on the seats. Speaking of the seats, they are finished in suede and leather, and are very comfortable. Other interior highlights include a "Banjo" style steering wheel, Vintage A/C and Heat, and a RideTech digital air ride controller.
Turning heads is what this truck was built for, and it's M.O. is working on us. Even parked alongside the other vehicles in our showroom, this truck demands attention. Whether hardparked, or rolling down the road, this is a truck that can be enjoyed in either circumstance. This truck is usable, unlike many radical builds that as enthusiasts we have all seen. It may be far from the way it left the Ford factory, but it's a well thought out, deliberate build that showcases some amazing products. Plain and simple, it's jaw dropping.
