1979 Chevrolet El Camino Additional Info:

The world's most practical muscle car? The truck that hauls more than cargo? It's hard to describe the El Camino, but this 1979 example is an excellent example of one of Chevy's better ideas. Nicely preserved and wearing a rare black on black color combination, it's a future collectable that you can enjoy right now.Finished in deep black paint, this El Camino has apparently never worked a day in its life, instead being treated as a cool daily driver and later a collector piece by just a single dedicated owner. The paint job is several years old so it's no longer perfect, but it still looks fantastic, and it's clear that the bodywork was ultra-straight before any of the work began. The chiseled flanks of the late Elkys neatly balanced the need to carry cargo and still maintain car-like proportions, and adding a cap on the bed turns this into one practical hobby vehicle. As the photos will attest, the bodywork is straight, the paint buffed to a high shine, and with a bunch of stainless trim, the overall stock appearance was maintained. Even the bed is in great shape with a custom mat and a neat wooden partition to keep things from rolling around in the cargo area. Thanks to a brand new seat cover for the bench seat, the interior looks fresh and inviting. Items like the door panels and dash look so good that you might suspect they're replacement pieces, but it appears that they are 100% factory original. The carpets are probably replacements which have not been crushed by years of foot traffic and age, and there's an aftermarket consolette in the middle. Gauges are limited to the basics, but this luxurious Elky also offers goodies like A/C (needs service) and a working AM/FM/cassette stereo radio, so it's ready for a cross-country jaunt. There are no notable modifications, which should tell you something about how untouched this trucklet really is, and it remains a pleasure to drive under any conditions. No matter where you go, Home Depot or the local cruise night, you're sure to get admiring glances and positive comments. The engine is a Goodwrench replacement crate 350 cubic inch V8 that makes all the right sounds thanks to a modest single exhaust system. With a great muscle car feel, the engine delivers a big dose of low-end torque befitting a truck, but cruises at high speeds without complaint. The engine bay is tidy and nicely maintained, with ancient engine enamel still clinging to the block and the original air cleaner up top. Routine maintenance has kept it in strong operating condition, and clean living certainly doesn't hurt. The TH350 3-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly and easily, and the 10-bolt rear end is full of highway gears that make this El Camino as happy around town as on the interstate. It's remarkably clean underneath, a result of it living in Texas all it's life, and just in case you still want to use it as a truck, air shocks in back help keep the body level. Wire wheel covers add an upscale appeal and wear 215/70/14 whitewall radials all around. This is a very neat truck/car that already has a loyal following.
