1970 Chevrolet Nova SS 396-375 HP L-78 Additional Info:
This is a 1970 Chevrolet Nova SS L78 396 / 375 HP, 4 speed manual. This unit is a numbers matching unit 375bhp, 402 cu. in. L-78 V8 engine with four-barrel carburetor, four-speed manual transmission, independent front suspension, live rear axle, and power front disc brakes. Rebuilt motor last year. Engine recently dyno'd at 419 HP. When the Chevrolet Nova SS debuted in 1964, it targeted a very specific market. The Chevy II, upon which it was based, was a rather staid, inexpensive, entry-level form of transportation. When Chevrolet decided to offer a V8 engine in the Chevy II, however, the car suddenly catered to an entirely different car buyer one concerned with both performance and value. As the Nova SS became increasingly successful, Chevrolet adopted all of the engines available for the Camaro, including the 375-horsepower, 396 cubic inch V8 engine. Throughout the 1960s, the Nova continued to enjoy a variety of horsepower options but one of the most memorable arrived for 1970 when Chevrolet introduced a new version of the now-legendary 396. The engine was enlarged to 402 cubic inches, although Chevrolet still called it the 396 or Turbo Jet 400 for name recognition and marketing purposes. Despite its relative affordability, however, just 3,765 of over 250,000 Nova's produced ever carried this power plant for 1970. The Nova presented here is one such SS example equipped with this 375-horsepower 396 big block and a four-speed transmission (engine pad stamping code CKO). The dark green metallic paint is absolutely beautiful, expertly applied with a glass-like surface finish. In fact, the fit of the body panels is likewise excellent, as is the re-chromed bright work, polished stainless steel, and glass. Equipped with a green vinyl bench seat, the interior is highly presentable. With such features as a four-speed transmission and an optional factory AM radio, a powerful Nova SS such as this warrants further enjoyment. While its exceptional exterior finish adds greatly to its presence, its inherent value lies under the hood. This car is a rare find and a very smart investment in this series of automobile built in early 1970. Appreciating in value every day. The factory #'s matching 396-375 HP V84 speed makes this vehicle a very rare and sought after car. Don't miss your chance of owning a American legend.
