1993 Cadillac Allante Convertible Additional Info:

1993 Cadillac Allante Convertible

The Cadillac Allant is a two-door, two-seater luxury roadster produced by Cadillac from 1987 until 1993. It used a Cadillac chassis and running gear with a body built in Italy by coach builder Pininfarina. It was expensive to produce with the complete bodies flown to Detroit for final assembly. Over 21,000 were built during its seven-year production run.

Offering for consignment the last year of production of this model Cadillac, which was available only in convertible form. A stout V8 is crammed in under the hood, and in 1993 was subjected to the gas guzzler tax, but hey, performance was king with this car.

Exterior
A nice coating of Pearl Red covers the exterior of this steel paneled car. Three inches of front fascia spoiler enhances high-speed aerodynamics while new, one-piece side window glass improved weather sealing and acoustics. A long front hood which hides the Northstar V8 shows in good condition. Door gaps are within good tolerances, and steel panels are straight and true. A headlight washer system is noted, as well as a pristine showroom condition trunk. Black molded vinyl surrounds the bottom of this car, and shows slight fading, as do the fold away rear-view mirrors. 16 Inch cast aluminum wheels are seen all around. The canvas convertible top, in black, is in good condition and operates smoothly.

Interior
Beige leather-trimmed bucket seats orthopedically designed to provide optimal support and comfort are seen when opening the door. The seats have power eight-way metaphoric adjustments and a new four-way power lumbar control. These buckets are showing with slight soiling but remain very nice. The driver's bucket has some loose leather in the seat. They flank a center console equipped with transmission shift selector that is slightly offset 20 degrees toward the driver for ease of shifting. Leather stitching on the door panels as well as nicely molded contrasting vinyl make up the door panels. Power window, seat adjustment, and power locks are a few of the buttons seen in the door armrest area. The dash is all electronic readouts and a "tower" if you will, is sitting to the right of the dash and houses the climate controls, radio and CD player, and trip computer which also displays driver information.

Drivetrain
This debut also introduced the world to the Northstar V-8 engine, which now powered the Allante, replacing the 4.5-liter V-8 formerly used. As with all other Northstar applications, the 4.6-liter V-8 was paired with the 4T80-E electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission. The Northstar engine featured highly efficient compound-geometry valve/port designs and "quiet coil" Direct Ignition System designed to operate at high rpm levels without loss of spark synchronization. The engine's dual stream injector Fluid Induction System was another innovation. This system was isolated from under hood heat sources and cooled the fuel during operation, which enhanced performance. A paired 4T80-E transmission featured a controlled-flow, dual lubricating system that provides proper lubrication under all operating conditions. Free-wheeling clutches ensure consistent shifting quality.

Undercarriage
Presenting very clean and rust free, obviously pampered and garaged, the undercarriage is aged nicely. Structurally sound and featuring a vastly upgraded road sensing suspension, speed sensitive steering and the new-generation Bosch ASRIIU traction control system. This convertible also benefits from receiving the short/long arm (SLA) rear suspension that improved steering responsiveness. Power disc brakes are all around and 4-wheel independent suspension is on.

Drive-Ability
Nicely appointed in Cadillac style this 2-seater venture ran nicely and had plenty of working conveniences. Mechanically sound, however, I noticed the power antenna is stuck in the up position.

A luxurious powerful toy could best describe this small but near muscle horsepower Caddy. A smooth runner, quick starter, and well maintained mechanically automobile, with a few exterior faults and nice interior. Drop the top and go for a winding cruise in the middle of nowhere and you will quickly be lost in your own satisfaction.
