I purchased this 1957 Willys Wagon in September 2018 toreplace an award winning 1970 Bronco that was destroyed in the Carr Fire inRedding, California. This vehicle had undergone a recent frame off restoration foran elderly gentleman who had owned a similar vehicle when he was in high school. The original L-226 engine, three speed transmission, transfer case, differential, and four wheel drive all work as they should. All of the glass, weather-strip,and rubber seals were replaced. All new body mounts and hardware wereinstalled. Spare tire and hardware are in place. The Tailgate functionsproperly. The tires are new. The oil pressure, voltage, and temperature gauges arefully functional. The only issue of even the slightest concern is that the fuelgauge does not work. (I have not had the time to research what may be causingthat issue.) The charging system was upgraded to the more reliable Chrysleralternator and electronic regulator (to my knowledge the only non-original/OEMparts). Perfection Auto Body receipts, available to any interested bidder, confirm that the restoration cost, not including thevehicle, exceeded $40,000. The result of the professional restoration is a 95+%original/stock vehicle that is beyond compare to any that I have seen in personor online. You will not find another 1957 Willys Wagon that compares to thisone in terms of originality, quality, or beauty. The interior, undercarriage, underthe hood and the metallic gray over metallic green paint job are all of showquality. Custom car cover and various manuals will be included in the sale.
I was able to purchase this vehicle from the estate of thegentleman who had it restored. In discussing this vehicle with the estaterepresentative, I was informed that the gentleman only had the opportunityto drive it three times before he passed away. Since that time the vehicle andbeen garaged and covered.
So why am I selling this beauty? Following the loss of ourhouse (and my beloved Bronco) I have been living in a rental house with a three-cargarage where the Willys has been kept. Within the next couple of months, I willbe moving to a new house with a two-car garage. I cannot have my everydaydriver out in the weather, and I will not allow the Willys to remain outside. Ihave provided a number of representative photos and would be happy to provide any additional photos upon your request.
This vehicle is listed for sale locally. I reserve the rightto cancel this auction upon the local sale of this vehicle up until the timethat the reserve price has been bid. For any California buyer, I will transferthe "57Wilys" vehicle plates to the new owner. This vehicle should not betransported in an open carrier. For any buyer needing to transport thisvehicle, I will pay one half the cost of a covered transport up to $1,200. Itdeserves the best.
