1973 Volvo 1800ES – One Owner California Car | Extensive Mechanical Restoration
Offered for sale is a truly special and highly documented 1973 Volvo 1800ES - an original one-owner California car with exceptional history, provenance, and a comprehensive recent mechanical restoration.
This car was purchased new by an engineer at Hughes Helicopters, who owned and cared for it his entire life. His background shows in the way the car was maintained - methodical, detail-oriented, and thoughtful. Over decades of ownership, he also amassed an extensive collection of NOS (new old stock) parts, many of which are included with the sale.
The car retains its original California pink slip and its original California Blue plates and the original purchase agreement.
Due to age and health, the car was parked in 2014, where it remained until I acquired it approximately one year ago.
Mechanical RestorationAfter acquiring the car, I completed a comprehensive mechanical recommissioning and restoration to bring it back to proper driving condition. The goal was not just to get it running, but to make it a solid, reliable driver while preserving its originality.
The work included:
In total, over $50,000 has been invested in parts and labor to bring this car back to life.
Condition & DrivingThe car now runs, drives, and performs as it should. It starts easily, idles smoothly, and feels tight and sorted on the road. This is not a neglected project or a quick flip—this is a properly recommissioned long-term ownership car.
Cosmetic Condition / NotesThe car retains what appears to be its original paint, which still presents well overall and adds to the authenticity of the car. However, there is visible cracking in areas, and a respray would take the car to the next level cosmetically.
The front seats show wear consistent with age and would benefit from new covers.
With those two items addressed, this would be one of the nicest examples on the market—combining exceptional originality, documented history, and fully sorted mechanicals.
HighlightsThis is a rare opportunity to own a highly original, one-owner 1800ES with exceptional provenance, extensive documentation, and a level of recent mechanical work that is difficult to replicate.
It offers the best of both worlds—a car you can drive and enjoy immediately, with the opportunity to take it to the next level cosmetically if desired.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions, additional photo requests, or to discuss the car further. I’m happy to assist with shipping arrangements if needed. Jonas: 310-600-1182
