1984 Volvo 242 – Unique Classic Driver – Well Loved – Runs Great

Up for sale is my 1984 Volvo 242, a very unique and increasingly hard-to-find classic Volvo coupe. These cars have a loyal following, and this one has been a fun and rewarding car to own and drive. It’s a real head-turner and always sparks conversations with people who remember when Volvos were built like tanks.

This 242 has been cared for and improved over the years and remains a very enjoyable driver. It starts easily, runs smoothly, and drives exactly the way a classic Volvo should—solid, comfortable, and confidence-inspiring.

The car is 40+ years old, so it’s not perfect, but it presents very well and has a lot of character. It’s a great car for Volvo enthusiasts, collectors, or someone looking for a distinctive classic that can still be enjoyed on the road.

Known Issues (Full Transparency)

I always prefer to be completely upfront:

• No heat – The heater currently does not produce heat. The heater hose is looped at the block and since the car is in Florida there was no need to install.
• Momentary cut-out – Once each time you start the car, it experiences a very brief (about less than 1 second) ignition cut-out shortly after driving off. It immediately recovers and then runs perfectly the rest of the drive with no further issues. This has been consistent and predictable.

Neither issue has prevented me from enjoying the car, but I want the next owner to be fully aware.
