Hello everyone, and welcome to the auction! Up for bid is a 1963 Volvo 122s. I bought the car in Oct, 2021 from the estate of the previous owner, who had the car since 1998. He kept detailed documentation, with the earliest receipt going back to Jan,1999. I have put some (but not alot) of work into it. Original plan was to do a slow, rolling restoration. I have been keeping it running nicely, using it as a fun/spare car until I could get around to doing stuff that would keep it down for an extended period. On the 10 scale, I would give the body/exterior a 6. The biggest ding (no pun intended) on that score is the top, but more on that later. The interior I would give a solid 7.5 (not original color). The dash has a couple vertical cracks, and the headliner needs just a little help. The driver rear corner was coming down when I bought it, so it was reattached with spray adhesive. The Realistic radio looks just that, but does not work. No heat. The original engine starts right up, runs great, and does not use/leak oil. The family told me the odometer has gone around "2 or 3 times", and is currently showing 67166. I do drive it, so the mileage may go up a bit before the auction closes. Just replaced the fuel tank (OEM) and recently put in a glass top fuel pump. Very cool, because not only can you now see the quality going through the brand new system, but you can also easily take out and clean the fuel filter in minutes! Also has a priming lever for quick restarts in the event of service. The points have been upgraded to a magnetic contactless breaker. New plugs. The car is reliable enough, that you can literally drive across the country in it. Claimed max speed is 90+, but I have never been over 75 or 80. It does 70 comfortably, but gets loud after that. Basically, this is not a freeway commuter so much as a pleasure cruiser. Overdrive was an option on these cars, so that can be added for more interstate friendly driving. The four speed manual functions, but the syncro for 4th is lunch, so it takes a little finesse to avoid a grind. Basically I just clutch, let the engine revs die and slowly shift, carefully brushing 4th to stop the gear. Takes a few times to get used to it, but easily driveable. It also has a small drip. Came out to 3 drops after my last trip. The oil in the transmission and the differential have both been serviced (by me) two months ago, and have about 100 miles of driving. The engine oil is about ready, and will be changed prior to auction close, as well as new brakes all the way around (disc front/drum rear). New front wheel bearings (OEM) will also be installed. The clutch master cylinder leaks down when the car sits for an extended period without being driven. The passenger rear wheel cylinder also appears to have a very slow leak, as you can see in the pictures. Neither of these items are going to be addressed prior to sale. The car can still be safely driven. Just have to top off the fluids 2 or 3 times a year. Now to the top/body...It is the only real negative. The damage to the top happened in 2019, and it was taken to an auto body shop in El Paso, TX by the previous owner. The work they did was obviously very bad. According to the family, he getting ready to sue, but passed on. I decided to remove the 5lbs of bondo, as it had cracked, I didn't want water between it and metal. It was rattle canned with filling primer, but needs to be redone if it is going to be left for a while longer. The last 5 pictures are of what I took off, shortly after buying the car. The underside has been abundantly photographed, so you can see the few areas that need help. Every complete body panel needed for this car (minus the top) can be found online. It is new OEM reproduction from Sweden (US shipping) that bought all of the original tooling to make parts for these cars. Even Volvo themselves still make many parts.Speaking of parts, it comes with good stuff. New choke cables, copper oil plug gaskets, set of undercarriage bushings, old (rebuildable) fuel pump, Body clips for trim, Diff gasket(pumped out when serviced, didn't use). Also includes 3 tools, the carb balancing gauge, rear drum removal tool and steering wheel removal tool. The tires (Nexxen) were put on just after I bought it and have 95%+ tread. They are practically new. Matching spare that has not been used.I have done my best to be 100% transparent, with many good pictures. I am proud to have 100% feedback after nearly 25 years. Granted, I only sell my own stuff, so not much volume, lol. Any questions, please feel free to reach out. I will respond as quickly as possible.
