This car is gloriously clean and straight and remarkably free of rust-related corrosion. There is absolutely zero cancer, rot, or bubbling on this car. Amazing fun on the road, steering super tight, lots of road feel, superb handling, feels very European, and gets loads of attention everywhere I go. I have quite a bit of money invested to ensure its roadworthy-ness, reliability, and longevityand it runs, drives and rides very smoothly.
I have the original owner's manual/documents, as well as all of my receipts for the work I have had done on this car, in addition to a freshly passed, valid California smog certificate in hand. The engine is in fantastic running condition, does not smoke, does not leak, and does not burn a drop of oil. Clutch is very responsive and transmission is tight and shifts "like butter", according to my mechanic, though every once in a great while I personally find shifting into reverse to be a tad chunky. I obtained this car privately from a 90 year old man who loved this green Volvo since the early '80s and I found it through a personal connection, not an internet ad. It's fresh...a true "barn find", and was used lightly and lovingly cared-for. After I bought it, my goal was to turn it into a summer project and restore it mechanically to true daily-driver status.
Here is a list of everything I've had done: newvalve cover gasket, new brake master cylinder, new Volvo brand motor mounts, new differential seal, new steering column bushing, new left front boot, brand new tires and alignment, oil change, all fluids changed, new rotors, brake pads, front struts, AC conversion, new AC hose, new AC dryer, new radiator, thermostat, & radiator hoses, complete new exhaust system (pipes and muffler), EGR tube repair, new vacuum hoses/lines, new fuel evap air valve, new transmission mount, new gearbox mount bushings, fan blower motor lube and restoration, engine tune-up/new spark plugs/wires, weld/repair exhaust leaks in manifold pipe, new engine air filter, reconnect trunk drainage hose, tighten up slop in steering...loose bolts, repair/weld crack in driver's side window frame, 1 new fan fuse, restore flaky headlight switch, new fuel accumulator, new fuel pump, new fuel filter, new grab handle covers (interior) and i'm probably forgetting a few items (over 7 thousand dollars in receipts!)I have monitored the gas mileage regularly, last tank of gas (car has gorgeous, original red Volvo gas cap!) approx. 22 MPG combined...which I am totally thrilled with (I use exclusively premium, high octane fuel). All lights, functions, features, indicators, etc are in working condition and AC blows cold. Dash light dimmer trim knob was not working properly, so it has been bypassed as it's not necessary. Drive this car anywhere and everywhere. It's ready to go.
Obviously the car looks stunningly gorgeous and it definitely is. Here is a list of the most significant cosmetic issues according to me, all of which are IMO minor and do not detract from the appearance or feel of the car: 1. typical cracks in dash board 2. outer edge of driver's seat frayed and starting to tear from years of exiting the vehicle 3. some sun fading of fabric on top edge of backseat as well as rear dash panel behind back seat 4. evidence of weld repair where window frame meets door seam had cracked (see last pic) 5. very small bit of surface rust beginning underneath the spare tire inside the trunk where the paint has been chafed away from spare tire movement...easily removed with steel wool, just haven't done it yet 6. car looks amazing, but paint job not stellar....this is the original color, but I see obvious evidence that it has been refreshed(professionally) in various sections over the years here and there...overall looks fantastic and nobody seems to notice, but up close there are flaws in the paint, many tiny chips throughout and small, light scratches here and there. On the other hand, this is what you would expect from a 43 year old survivor. I want to be transparent in that I am not claiming this car is perfect, nor is it in "mint" condition.
Please ask all questions and address any concerns you may have prior to bidding. Feel free to ask me anything or request more pictures. You are also welcome to visit the car as well as take it for a test drive or have your mechanic look at it, totally happy to accommodate your needs...just ask. You agree to be responsible for picking up the vehicle and/or arranging all transportation and covering transportation costs. I will accept cash in person and checks/money orders. Checks/money orders must clear my bank before car is considered paid for. Sale will include a full tank of premium fuel. This vehicle is sold in AS-IS condition with no warranty expressed or implied.
And lastly and most importantly, bid with confidence! I sincerely believe finding an original '70s vintage Volvo ANYWHERE that is this clean and well-preserved is a very special opportunity. Nearly every single vintage 240 of this era has moderate to serious rust issues. And then there is this one. Thank you!
