Could this the Brick of your dreams? 1988 240 DL 5 speed no roof rack wagon. White with Blue interior but the seats have been replaced with black leather seats from a later 240 wagon with seat heaters and later style head rests. They are in good shape, driver's seat is missing one button and has a very small separation of a seam on the lower cushion. The back seat does fold down but the release handle is missing. Previously the car was wired for a serious sound system and there are 2 empty holes in the interior panel of the tailgate and some extra wires for speakers and a subwoofer/amp. in the cubby where a third seat might go. She has no radio at this time but there are 2 serious speakers in each of the front doors. The body has a few seemingly random rust spots which have been highlighted in the photos, the worst seem to be the right rear wheel well and the bottom of the tail gate. One hood hinge has been replaced (same color) so no ugly bulging hood. The spare tire wells are solid as is the rest of the under carriage (see the photos) The dash has the usual cracks and there is a small stone chip in the middle of the windshield that does not effect the driver's field of vision. Windshield does leak a little on drivers side during a heavy rain, need to have it reset. The speedometer and the odometer work (yes the gear was replaced, mileage is believed to be original. No clunks, bangs or weird noises. Inner and outer tie rod ends are only a few years old and are grease-able. Headliner is beautiful, all lights work as does the rear wiper, chime for the seat belts and even the interior light delay! I spent almost $1000 on the a/c system last summer and it works great! She is a local car with the original window sticker and owner's manual. She has no evidence of being in an accident. Authentic blue Volvo muck mats.
She has a set of turbo 740 wheels, the front tires are great, the back are not terrific but they will hold air and get you home.
Now the good stuff: she has a full IPD suspension front and rear with springs, sway bars, adjustable Panard rod and rear control arms. She handles great! Previous owner (a racing engineer with a local Indy car team) rebuilt the engine around 30K miles ago with the following: .40 over pistons, file fit rings, new rod and main bearings, head bolts, oil pump strainer and the oil pump was rebuilt. Canadian B cam with adjustable Dale's timing gear, new timing belt and gaskets but she has a small oil leak from what appears to be the front of the valve cover or perhaps behind the cam gear but it loses very little between changes. Because of the mods she has a lumpy idle that triggers the "service engine soon" light when she is started (but it goes out after a minute or so). Turbo exhaust with cat converter. Oversized K&N Conical reusable air filter. Recent cap, rotor and wires. also oil change and filter. The tranny and dif are full of Redline MTF synthetic gear oil. Clutch was replaced and flywheel resurfaced when engine was rebuilt with genuine factory parts. Brake pads were replaced (a while ago) with high performance Hawk HPS pads (great but dusty). Even the damn rear lower control arm bushings were replaced!
This is the fastest normally aspirated red block I have ever owned and it's really weird to make horse power instead of just noise above 3500 RPM. She like s to cruise at 80.
Oh, and did I mention the turbo motor? (Did I not mention that the Volvo of your dreams might be a do it yourself project?) Yeah, I have a complete B230T allegedly out of an 1987 740 with 130,000 miles, including the brain, oil cooler and inter cooler that is part of the deal. I think the only thing missing is the wiring harness. No I haven't heard it run but it has compression, the plugs look good and other than a broken stud on the exhaust manifold looks good to go. Remember you can always just swap out the head as the bottom end is almost new!
And finally, the piece de resistance, a matched set of four cooper snow tires in really good shape mounted on Volvo steelies with really ugly Volvo hubcaps. Some various spare Volvo parts and Mann oil filters come with the deal.
The car is located in the Indianapolis area. I would be glad to assist with delivery if needed (for gas and snacks) within an hour or so of Indy or fly in and drive home (maybe with the motor in the back?)
