Selling my totally restored and updated 1981 Volkswagen pickup. Over 18k invested and it is a knockout. I spared no expense in parts or labor to build this truck. I planned to never sell it but now at retirement I'm faced with what I have space to keep when downsizing. Factory diesel pickup with original factory installed air conditioning. But the factory 51 HP non turbo engine would barely power this 2500 pound pickup to 65mph let alone have the ac turned on. So, I started out with this totally rust free VW pickup from western Nebraska and then went about installing a low mile German built 1995 1.9 TDI engine that I had shipped here from California. The mechanical fuel injection pump is newly set up with 90HP output and a 5 speed OD transmission. The engine was updated with everything new from VW or Bosch parts including timing belt, glow plugs, injectors, seals, gaskets, water pump, turbo, starter, alternator, just to name a few. Complete new 2.5" custom exhaust with magna flow . So much new I can't even begin to think of it all.
The complete clutch, axle shafts, front springs and Billstein strut assemblies all brand new. New rack and pinion steering, power brakes, rotors and drum assemblies. All brand new. Runs 85 mph down the interstate and fires right off anytime. Only item not working at the moment is the ac compressor. I had installed a new Sanden compressor on build, along with custom built hoses, flushed evaporator, new ac radiator and condensor and a hot gas valve and dryer and it worked perfectly for 3 years and this year it has full freon but when the compressor clutch is energized it blows the AC fuse trying to turn the compressor. I have unplugged the compressor clutch lead at the compressor and the fuse holds fine so there must be an issue with the compressor or it's clutch. They are around $200 new so it may need this replaced. But the ac system would just run you out in the hottest days and the TDI motor has no problem on power what so ever with the ac on or off.
Body was never rusted anywhere including shock towers and had shell since new over the most perfect bed floor. There is all factory floor and box side panels with factory undercoating so there is no rust or damage anywhere. Just nothing to show in pictures. It is as clean and original metal from front to rear. You wont be disappointed about the quality of the paint and body. It has a brand factory new OEM Volkswagon tailgate(cost $1000) replaced the oem just because I wanted a perfect bed, along with NOS tail lights, turn signals, VW OEMgrille guard, and VW front spoiler andon andon. Even has nos European issue Bosch hallogen glass headlamps. The oem bed rails are a factory original option and are very rare and expensive. New 14" Michelins on factory VWCabrio wheels. Also has factory console with tachometer, amp guage, and oil pressure option. All these guages are NOS VDO pieces too. It has NOS OEM upholstery in original bronze/red vinyl and door panels. New black sport headliner and perfect dash and leather steering wheel.Custom one of factory reproduction 3M "SPORTRUCK" stripes. Truck was taken totally apart, blasted, and a professional PPG base clear paint in factory 2010 Corvette yellow paint inside and out and every nook and cranny. Metal rear sport valance was added for a clean rear sporty look. All backup lights and tag lights are halogen or LED.
Don't know what this awesome rare VW is worth but only put 4k miles since complete restoration and ready to move on to my next project. Going to sell to final high bidder at end of the auction. Will do a buy it now for $12500 if contacted and agreed and no trades please. I guarantee, you wont find another one on this planet in this shape or optioned out like it. It is stunning and a blast to hear that turbo spool up through the 5 speed. Also have a new Rostra electronic cruise kit in the box that will go with the truck along with another 1981 VW parts truck full of engines transmissions if wanted. Also have Bentley shop manual.
Require $500 pay pal deposit within 24 hours of sale and balance of payment in 7 days by bank transfer or good cashiers check or cash. Can stay inside for 30 days and can help load on your arranged shipping company. It will also drive anywhere with ease and 40 to 45 mpg. Very well restored and detailed.
Question asked:
The graphics are industrial 3M decal material custom made to duplicate the OEM VW SPORTRUCK but are flat graphic black not the shiny reflective material VW used in the 80's. They also can be removed fairly easily as all the paint/clearcoat was professionally sanded and polished several months before the decal package was installed. Only the OEM VOLKSWAGEN tailgate raised letters were done in black paint, masked off, then the truck yellow sprayed, letters unmasked, and clearcoat over everything that leaving a smooth perfect lettering edges.
