1984 Volkswagen Jetta Mk1 Jetta Coupe Additional Info:
1984 VW Volkswagen Jetta Coupe - Mk1
Purchased it from the original owner a month ago over in Iowa.
She purchased it new at VW Dealership in Iowa. I have lots of paperwork. Including original window sticker ( it will be pictured ) Also have the original invoic, tons of receipts for work don, hand written notes and a note pad documenting miles or something. If you Google Image her address - the google image shows a cute little house with the Jetta Coupe's back end sitting inside the garage.
Odometer :158, 000
1.7l gas motor - manual wide ratio 5 speed transmission.
Factory Sunroof
Purchased new without Air Conditioning.
Opted for the 1983 SPORT Sea, interior package. ( $290 on the invoice )
Also had it rust proofed for a little over $200 - it seemed to work.
There is a trailer hitch attached then an electrical plug in the trunk. I am told she pulled a pop up camper around.
The 13" Factory steel rims w/ VW Chrome hub caps - tires are good.
I removed the factory VW tape / am / fm radio as it was not working on the left side speakers. I installed a nice Kenwood CD Player w/ AUX & USB. Also installed new Kenwood 5.25 speakers in the rear deck - along with used JBL front speakers in the factory speaker pods in the doors. Now you can hear the music while driving with the windows down.
The body of the car is AMAZING. There is only 1 spot of surface discoloration / rust behind the driver rear fender well ( it is pictured ) The other spot is in front of the passenger front fender flare. ( also pictured ) The original windshield & Seal were just ruined from Midwest heat. I could not find a factory OEM replacement windshield. Installed a new windshield and a NEW seal last week. The previous owner had some " goo " or sealant applied under the driver side corner of the windshield and around the driver side A pillar and above the driver side. Body shop sanded / primed and prepped to remove this GOO from the original old seal - there is some black discoloration where this goo was removed. There is a little tiny small ding in rear passenger quarter panel along edge - i did not take a picture of i, its very minimal. Front bumper has a few deer whistles on it.
Mechanical:
I bought the car not running or not running well. The fuel distributor was not working and it was replaced with a good used one. The timing belt was replaced according to her records also around 150k ( i think it is the 3rd to last entry on her note pad ) The oil light flashe, with RMP's - i have not figured out which oil pressure switch needs to be replaced yet to make that stop. There is one on the cylinder head and one on top of the oil filter housing. I will probably replace them before the auction is over to make the light go off. When first starting the car it will idle funny / rough - just for a few seconds or maybe 45 seconds - then it smooths out. The shift linkage takes a little getting used to getting into first gear. After driving it for awhile you find it every time. I bought a bushing kit but have not had time to install it yet.
Interior:
Its also pretty AMAZING. The only issue is the outer upper and lower bolsters of the driver seat have been repaired. ( there is a picture ) I had the car 2 weeks before I even noticed that it was repaire, recovered. The white headliner is amazing. Dash is perfect. Carpet is in good condition. Back seat is nice - seat belts all work.
Other Oddities:
There is a locking gas cap that does not have a ke, I have a ton of rabbits at my place but cant find a proper 1/4 turn cap for this Jetta.
I would not be surprised if this is the original springs / suspension. Its not super sof, but probably could use some nicer struts / shocks. There is a clunk but upon inspection i don't see anything obvious on driver side making the noise. ( i do have a set of coil-overs but they are NOT included )
It is a 34 year old Vw so its sold as is where is.
I uploaded 24 pictures to represent the car.
Located Lincoln Nebraska 68516
