1967 Volkswagen Beetle (Pre-1980) 1967 “ONE-YEAR-ONLY” BUG

I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNERS PARENTS WHO GIFTED THIS TO THEIR DAUGHTER UPON HER GRADUATION FROM HIGH SCHOOL. I DIDN’T GET ALL THE EXACT DETAILS. AS IT WAS OBVIOUSLY TOO PAINFUL FOR THEM TO TALK ABOUT, BUT AT SOME POINT BETWEEN 1980 AND 1983 THIS COUPLE LOST THEIR DAUGHTER. SO THIS CAR WAS VERY SENTIMENTAL TO THEM AND WAS PLACED IN STORAGE AT A SELF STORAGE FACILITY THAT THEY OWNED SINCE IN 1983 IT WAS NEVER TAKEN OUT UNTIL 2023, WHEN THE FAMILY SOLD THE SELF STORAGE COMPLEX AND THE MOTHER WAS ABOUT TO BE PUT IN AN ASSISTED LIVING FACILITY IS WHEN THEY FELT IT WAS TIME TO PART WITH IT THE STORY THAT I WAS TOLD BY THE FAMILY WAS THAT THE 11,975 MILES WAS THE ORIGINAL MILES THAT WAS PUT ON THE VEHICLE BEFORE IT WAS STORED AND THAT THE SPEEDOMETER HAD BROKEN AT SOME TIME AROUND 11,975 WHEN IT WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER AND IS WHY THE VEHICLE IS ONLY SHOWING 1140 MILES TOTALING 13,115 MILES I FOUND THE ORIGINAL SPEEDOMETER IN THE FRONT, EVEN THOUGH THE FAMILY DIDN’T REALIZE THAT IT WAS THERE SO IT KIND OF HELPED TO LEGITIMIZE WHAT THEY WERE SAYING ALSO, I ASKED THE FAMILY WHAT THE ROMAN NUMERAL MARKINGS WERE ON THE OIL BATH AIR FILTER, AND THEY SAID THAT THE DAUGHTER WOULD HAVE THE OIL CHANGED EVERY 2000 MILES RATHER THAN THE FACTORY RECOMMENDED 3000 MILES AND WOULD USE A WHITE FINGERNAIL POLISH TO THE AIR FILTER EACH TIME THE OIL WAS CHANGED SO THAT SOMEWHAT LEGITIMIZES THAT THE OIL WAS CHANGED EVERY 2000 MILES AS I KNOW OF NO OTHER REASON WHY THAT WOULD’VE BEEN PUT ON THE AIR FILTER I RETRIEVED THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE STORAGE FACILITY AS PICTURED IN THE VERY FIRST PICTURE AND STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL TIRES THAT WERE TOTALLY FLAT AND DRY ROTTED BEYOND BELIEF, SO IT REALLY LOOKED LIKE THE CAR HAD BEEN IN THE STORAGE UNIT FOR OVER 40 YEARS I PUT BRAND NEW TIRES ON IT AFTER I GOT IT BACK TO MY SHOP AS THERE WAS NO OTHER WAY TO GET IT OFF THE UHAUL TRAILER WITHOUT DOING SO OR USING A FORKLIFT OF SOME SORT THE BODY IS IN GREAT CONDITION AND LOOKS LIKE IT’S NEVER BEEN WRECKED OR REPAIRED AND AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE PICTURES, IT LOOKS AS THOUGH THE HEAT IN A STORAGE FACILITY IS WHAT DID THE MAJORITY OF THE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE WE DRAINED THE OIL AND REPLACED IT WITH NEW AND REPLACED THE CARBURETOR RATHER THAN JUST CLEANING IT, BUT I STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL CARBURETOR WITH THE VEHICLE AND ALSO PUT IN A NEW BATTERY, AND REPLACE THE SPARK PLUGS AND DISTRIBUTOR CAP AND WIRES AND THE GENERATOR AND IT DIDN’T TAKE VERY LONG AT ALL FOR THE ENGINE TO RESTART!!! I DO NOT HAVE THE TITLE IN HAND AT THE MOMENT, BUT HAVE BEEN PROMISED FOR THREE YEARS THAT THEY WERE GOING TO GET A REPLACEMENT TITLE FOR ME. I WAS TOLD BY THE TOW TRUCK OPERATOR GUY THAT WAS LOCAL AND HELPED ME GET THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE STORAGE UNIT THAT NEEDLESS TO SAY THERE WERE SO MUCH MONEY INVOLVED IN THE ESTATE THAT THE KIDS ARE STILL FIGHTING OVER WHO’S IS WHO’S ( imagine that ??? ) I SO BADLY WANTED TO DO THE RESTORATION ON THIS VEHICLE BUT HAVE SIMPLY HAD A LOT OF LIFE CHANGES OVER THE PAST THREE YEARS AND JUST DON’T HAVE THE TIME TO PUT THE WORK INTO RESTORING IT AND WOULD REALLY LIKE TO SEE THE FINISHED PRODUCT OF WHOEVER IT IS THAT IS LUCKY ENOUGH TO PURCHASE IT AND RESTORE IT AS IT WOULD MEAN A LOT TO ME !!!
