1987 VW Vanagon Westfalia T3 Campmobile

This is a fully restored Westfalia, gone through with meticulous attention to detail. Anything that wasn’t in excellent condition has been replaced or renewed—no shortcuts, no expense spared. The list of upgrades is extensive.

I’ve owned this van for 27 years and believe I’m only the second owner. It’s been my pride and joy, and letting it go will not be easy. I’m only selling because I’m no longer in a chapter of life where I can fully enjoy it.

Mechanically, it’s solid and dependable. The engine and transmission were rebuilt approximately 60,000 miles ago, along with a new clutch. It runs perfectly and has always been reliable—starting right up even after sitting for extended periods. The body has 313,000 miles, but you wouldn’t know it. It looks and drives almost like a new vehicle. It spent most of its life in California, so it stayed in great shape. No leaks.

The van has a brand new, high-end custom paint job, finished to a deep, glassy shine. All rust was properly removed, dents repaired, and the body seams were carefully ground out and resealed prior to paint. The color is Chalk, a premium Porsche color that really sets it apart.

It has a 17” Mercedes wheel setup. The wider stance and shorter sidewall tires significantly improve stability and handling. Combined with the upgraded suspension, this van drives exceptionally well—smooth, confident, and genuinely fun.

This Westfalia is ready to drive and camp today. I wouldn’t hesitate to take it across the country. Super clean interior. With all the recent work, it’s set up to be enjoyed for decades to come.

It’s getting harder and harder to find a Westy in this kind of condition—especially one that’s been cared for this deeply.

I have a 3 month old baby now so there are a couple things that I wasn’t able to finish the way I wanted. The AC is almost entirely rebuilt, but it never got all hooked up and charged. 95% of the work is done, but it will take someone who knows what they’re doing to finish it up.

Also, the original propane tank valve has a new leak. I believe it would be a relatively easy fix, but I installed a workaround so you can use a 1 pound camping tank for the stove. Works great actually.

I removed the fridge since they never really worked well anyway. More storage!
