1968 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Additional Info:

Volkswagen, 1968 Westfalia Camper Bus, 1971 dual port 1600 engine. We don’t know for sure but the odometer reading is 32,700 on the replaced engine. Engine runs well, vehicle drives nicely. Body is in good shape with a few noticeable spots of rust. Pop-up tent works well. Started out all white and is now white and green. We do not know the vehicle’s complete history since new but we do know some things about it. We realize the importance of transparency when selling vehicles. There are several small mechanical issues that could be resolved easily. For example, a windshield wiper is missing, the little sink does not have the bladder below, and the front seats could certainly use new coverings, and inside door panels are loose in some areas. Some knobs and switches are missing/loose as well. We have the original service manual as well. This vehicle is ready for camping and/or can be spiffed up a little.

So what’s the back story? Self-proclaimed hippie (since retired) purchased the vehicle used in 2000. She had it painted, put in curtains, new brake shoes, wheel cylinders, front bearings and seals, etc. and made trips to various events like blue grass festivals, and parades featuring like vehicles. As with all Westy owners, she named the van “Hildegarde.”She parked it in a covered area when she stopped traveling. It sat there protected for about 2 years before she decided her hippie days were over for sure and she should sell it. After a quick battery charge, it turned over nicely. Soon began to hum (after several “farts”). Among other things, our former hippie is also a huge animal lover. Being such, she wants to donate some of the proceeds to a local animal rescue organization, Salem Dogs. Those funds will be applied to the medical care of homeless animals with special needs.
