Up for auction is a 1959 VW Karmann Ghia Lowlight convertible. This car needs a total restoration or could be used as a donor car for another project. The other possibility is to continue the modifications where the previous owner left off and finish it. It was driving and road worthy when it was parked in a garage some time in the late 90's. What you see in the pictures is what is included with the car.
This car was a custom project for the previous owner that he never completed. He cut and modified the rear pan and then installed a 150hp turbocharged Corvair engine. The running condition of the engine is unknown at this time. The engine has been set up for reverse rotation, and was mated to a VW transmission with an adapter plate. The transmission is in the car, but like the engine its condition is unknown.
The rear quarter panels have been cut and modified. The door handles were shaved. The front headlights are frenched. The front grills were filled in. Aside from the mentioned modifications, the front fenders and valence appear to be relatively intact. The dash was drilled for the additional set of gauges.
There is only the windshield. No other glass is present. The window regulators have been removed. There is a set of window regulators that came with the car and are included. I don't know if they are actually for the car. There is no rear seat or rear side panels. The convertible top frame is in the car.
The passenger floor pan does have some rust holes. There is a rust hole in the front compartment under the spare tire.
The car sat in storage for well over 20 years. I had intended to do a full restoration, but I have too many other projects going and I just don't have the time or experience with Volkswagens to do what this car requires. I would rather it go to someone who has a passion for Karmann Ghia's and can use it for their needs.
The title is clean and in my name. The true mileage is unknown.
The pictures speak for themselves. Again, if its not in the pictures, I don't have it. I am happy to take additional pictures as necessary. I am also willing to do a live video chat of the car with arrangements made in advance. Please ask any questions upfront before you bid. I will answer questions as best as possible.
I do not disclose my reserve upfront. I will consider any fair and reasonable offers. I have the car for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction early if it sells.
I try to keep my auctions as simple as possible. Don't bid if you aren't a buyer. If you bid, you're entering into an agreement to purchase the car. Non-payers will get negative feedback.
If you have negative or zero feedback, I will cancel your bid. I don't need help selling. I don't need help to set up a PayPal account. I don't sell to overseas or out of country buyers.
I only accept secure and verifiable funds, or cash in person. If you pay by cashiers check, certified bank check, or money order then the funds must clear and be deposited into my account before title and/or car is released. There will be a nonrefundable deposit after the sale.
Shipping is the sole responsibility of the buyer. I will be happy to store the car indoors and keep it secure until pick-up can be arranged. I generally try to accommodate buyers within reason to allow for pick-up. I know weather and transport companies are unpredictable and can cause delays.
This car is being sold as is.
