We can assist with financing and shipping as needed.This highly customized 1967 Volkswagen Beetle is appropriately known as the “Bed Bug”. It is a well-built vehicle with loads of charm throughout. It has the obvious modifications of a pickup style bed with airbrushed woodgrain sides along with a Carson convertible top. But there is much more including a new GEX 2.1L engine and 4-speed transmission. And you can’t miss the custom TMI interior along with the matching wheels and Killer Designs pinstriping. The more you see on this one, the more interesting it gets.Hailing from Florida, this project started with a solid rust-free 1967 Beetle sedan (which can be hard to find). Modifications included removing the top, lowering the windshield 2”, and fitting a steel pickup style bed along with 1932 Ford rear fenders! Note the beautiful woodgrain features are all done with paint, while the back of the vehicle has a fixed louvered “tail gate” and 1950 Pontiac tail lights. The external door handles were shaved in favor of a smooth look. The car also received an excellent lightweight Carson top with a snap-up rear window. Note the doors still have roll-up glass windows. The painted 15” wheels wear 145/65 tires in front and 205/70 in back.The engine and transmission are from GEX with fewer than 200 miles since installation. The crate 2,110cc mill is topped by an EMPI 44HPMX dual carburetor kit. There is also an EMPI header and stainless muffler. The 4-speed transmission is a rebuilt GEX Pro Street unit. There is a new clutch kit too. Both the engine and transmission have fewer than 200 miles since installation. The Bed Bug has a terrific stance thanks to a custom lowered front beam with disc brakes along with a modified rear independent suspension. Everything is in excellent mechanical condition.The interior was also customized starting with the TMI bucket seats and matching door panels which give the perfect look for this build! The dash has matching green accents and “Bed Bug” script along with a custom arrangement of lower gauges for RPM, oil pressure, and oil temperature. There is also a JVC sound system with speakers behind the seats. The lights, turn signals, wipers, and horn all work properly, while seat belts are present for both occupants. Behind the passenger area is the storage section of the bed with a locking steel cover and battery box. The “frunk” is carpeted and includes storage for the spare tire. Note the factory VIN stamp remains visible on the tunnel behind the seats. This remarkable car just looks like a good time waiting to happen. And while it may not be a split window Corvette, the Bed Bug was definitely not a cheap build; with all the custom fabrication work and craftmanship it would easily top six figures to replace. But as often happens with such projects, the visionary takes a huge loss while the subsequent owner can grab an incredible deal.
