1966 SO42 pop top Westfalia that have owned this since the late ‘90s.When I bought it the Missouri Safety Inspection decal was from 1986, suggesting that was the last year it was driven. It just went through a 2 year rebuild focusing on maintaining the original paint. Areas where the metal was replaced along with the engine compartment and rear interior were repainted where needed. All the interior panels and seats are recovered. Brakes were upgraded to dual circuit, electrics to 12 volt. Engine is freshly rebuilt 1600sp. The transaxle shifts nicely . Maintaining as much original paint as possible meant leaving small dings and scratches here and there, you can’t live on this earth 57 years and not have them. Those, along with the sunburned roof patina give the bus authenticity. The paint covering the replacement panels does not match the Velvet Green factory paint exactly. We had 3 people give it a try. There are some pin/pencil holes along the lower front nose and a few in the inner dog legs. I felt that the damage wasn’t worth the surgery. The heater cables are frozen, I wouldn’t drive this in the cold, you may want to.
