1984 Volkswagen Rabbit Additional Info:
Overview:
I have had this car for 4 years, and it has brought me so much joy. It's a classic. In my opinion, there is no better-looking car, and the fun, authentic, stripped-back driving experience is unrivaled. But the time has come for someone else to take this into their care and steer this beautiful machine through the next chapter of its life.
1.8L Gas/petrol (four-cylinder, naturally aspirated, fuel-injected).
Kept in a garage fantastic condition. I don't drive it daily, but you could, no problem.
Modifications:
- Professionally lowered with coiloversbefore I owned it - just look at that profile - to say it is nimble is an understatement.
- Magnaflow performance muffler - it sounds incredible, it performs great.
- Sound system - Modern stereo, stock speakers in doors have been replaced with modern hardware, there is a subwoofer underneath the passenger seat
- Avus Snowflake Alloy Wheels including a 5th in the trunk for a spare (worth $1,000+)
- Mk1 GTI genuine Wolfsburg steering wheel.
Repairs
- When I first purchased this car in 2020, I spent around $5,000 on fixing a bunch of small things that you would expect from an almost 40-year-old car. Including, but not limited to a new front right axle, fixing leaks, replacing gaskets, adjusting the clutch, getting the steering aligned, repairing small fuel injector leaks, cleaning the engine, brand new radiator etc. etc. This work was carried out at Maverick Motorworks in San Diego and I can share full documentation with you.
- I had a pre-sale inspection done on 09/11/23. I will share the documentation with you. Bottom line, everything is great apart from tiny oil pan seepage and the clutch is getting towards the end of its life.
Quirks and wrinkles
I want to be completely transparent. This car will be 40 years old next year.
- small tear in driver's seat fabric
- small dent in hood (easily repairable)
- driver's seat fold lever broken
- oil pressure light is on but this is a sensor issue. The engine pressure is fine as indicated clearly by the pressure gauge.
- The convertible roof is original so there are some interior cosmetic blemishes, but its fully functional
- The horn does not work
- The speedometer isn't accurate because the aftermarket wheels are smaller than stock.
- The lower timing cover is in the trunk and needs to be installed.
