Custom built Hot Rod Beetle
Car was built in 1974 and remained with original builder until 2020. He was a lifelong air cooled mechanic and builder. We decided to give the engine a rebuild about a year after I bought it in 2021. No problems since. I did some work on the interior that pretty much matches the overall condition of the car - good enough for who it’s for! (See photos)
The real showpiece is the Porsche engine with its Dual Zenith 2 barrel carbs. I believe this was about a 95hp engine. Other notable parts:
Cragar wheels
Vintage wide body flees fiberglass fenders
New SCAT Rally bucket seats
Beefed up Mofoco torsion bar
Superior Performance “The 500” Steering Wheel
I’m sure there’s other notable things that I don’t know. I bought the car hoping to become an enthusiast, but it never stuck. I’m just not that into it. Hoping to pass The PorscheBug onto someone who will appreciate it more than I’m able to. Simple as that! I’ll do my best to answer questions, but I suspect you’ll know more than I do about these sorts of things. I’ll be as transparent as possible. Aside from the intermittent starting issue and the workaround switch as shown in the video, there’s not much that ‘bugs’ me about the car. It’s super fun just like it is!
