1958 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia "Low Light" Additional Info:

Volkswagen's popular Beetle spawned a number of other automobiles, creations like the Thing, Type 2 Microbus, and most striking of all, the Karmann Ghia. Introduced in 1955, the beloved Karmann Ghia was an interesting German-Italian joint effort. The body was produced by Karmann under contract but was designed by the famous Italian design firm Ghia. The car far surpassed its creator's expectations in both execution and commercial success! One of the most sought-after, air-cooled convertibles ever built, even Car and Driver magazine went as far as to compare it to the ever-classic Porsche Speedster. Although many collectors relish the distinct design and style of the original coupe form. When production ceased in July 1974 at the Osnabruck plant, 283,501 coupes and 80,897 convertibles had been produced. Considering Volkswagen's large scale production standards, they are still considered limited production.
Offer here is a 1958 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia "Low Light" Coupe finished beautifully in Polar Silver Metallic over Kindig Red vinyl interior with accenting White piping by Sew Fine Interiors! It comes very nicely equipped with a later generation rebuilt H-code, single port 1500cc Horizontal 4-cylinder for added horsepower and allowing for a complete 12-volt conversion with alternator charging. Fuel delivery remains a Solex H30/31 PICT downdraft carburetor. The 4-speed transaxle was fully rebuilt by Midwest Air-Cooled & Machine with a 4.12 ring gear and taller .82 fourth gear for a significant improvement in engine rpm for highway driving. A new clutch plate and throw-out bearing were included in this process, all completed in June 2018.
The professional cosmetic work was all executed more recently being finished in September 2022. This included a complete bare metal repaint of all exterior surfaces with all glass and brightwork removed, and an all-new interior from the carpet up including hardware and dash knobs! New window seals and weather stripping were fitted at completion. The results are exceptional! Features include original two year only ignition switch & 2-spoke steering wheel, overhead dome light, heat/defrost front & rear, Blaupunkt AM radio (in-operable), bamboo parcel tray, outside rearview mirror, chrome bumpers with overriders, Firestone 5.60-15 wide whitewall tires on 5-lug smoothie wheels with chrome center caps, and stainless-steel body side moldings! The car is nicely balanced with the suspension lowered approximately 1" with an adjustable front axle beam to give it the perfect ride height.
Hailing as a west coast car its entire life, you will be hard-pressed to find a more solid example. It possesses an excellent chassis structure with solid, original floor pans and heater channels! Early "low-light" examples have been ever increasing in value, and finding one in similar condition as this one can be very challenging. Very few come to the market each year and all of them sell very quickly! If you are interested in this special example, we encourage you to call today with questions or to set up an appointment to view in person. We are certain it will not last long! Thanks for looking!
