The car was sold at Ray Ely Motors in Oakland,CA and delivered 4/8/66. I have the original warranty booklet with the engine number. A friend of mine and I have owned the car independently (sold back and forth) for almost 20 years. From records, it appears the car was in California at least until 1998. The current mileage is 63,341 and is not correct as the speedometer has been replaced.
Body
It is tan which is the original color. The paint is original and thin particularly on the top as the primer is showing through as seen in the photos. It has been hit on the right front fender. It was replaced and repainted. There is bondo in the body just behind the fender. Half the hood was painted. There are dents in both rear fenders. The jack points are solid. The dash and door jambs have original paint. The gaps are excellent and the doors close nicely with authority. The hood is unbent. The glass is good but there is a recent 2” star in the passenger side windshield that has not been repaired. The rear bumper has been bent to accommodate the engine lid. The pan is solid without repair. This includes the battery floor area.
Interior
The interior is black vinyl. It is original style and in remarkably nice condition. I assume the front seats have been recovered. There are no tears or seam separations. The vinyl is supple. Headliner has a few tears and there are some loose areas and tears around the sunroof. The mechanical sunroof works well. Gauges work but the gas tank sending unit frequently sticks. It will need attention.

The engine is original. In 2000 the original owner had the engine rebuilt. I have the receipt . It starts easily and runs well. It is very reliable.
Transaxle
It shifts well with no grinding. No clutch issues.
Suspension, brake, steering all in good order. It could use new tie rods.Tires have good tread.

In general, this is a very solid original VW 1300 sunroof. I know the history for the past 20 years. I do have records from the previous owner. It is driven regularly. It is always stored in a shop since I’ve owned the car. It is serviced at regular intervals. I have the original owners manual as well as the factory service book as previously mentioned. The manuals has water damage. I have another that looks original but it is so clean that it may be a reproduction. The actual mileage is unknown because of the speedometer replacement.
I am reluctant to sell but I have too many projects. Ask any question and I will do my best to answer it honestly. My Ebay feedback supports this.
