1973 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic Additional Info:
I bought this car 15 months ago as a rescue from a "divorce " sale. It had been a wedding present, consequently it had sat in the driveway for over 7 years with no movement. I trailered the car home with 4 flats, replaced all 4 tires with new, replaced the battery changed oil cranked the engine with external gas tank, ran okay after a few minutes. According to the previous owner, they had received the beetle from the original owner as a wedding gift, with original 50,000 miles, I have not driven the car on the road, so the previous owner had only driven it approximately 10,000 miles. Accordingly, the chassis is purported to be an original with 60,000 miles. It has original floor pans and they are in good condition, including the battery box area. Heater channels have repair kits that I added, as they had rust holes where the rear running boards mount, which I have found to be typical for the age.All of the flexible brake lines were stopped up, so I replaced them as well as wheel cylinders and brake shoes, and flushed the system, replaced one brake light switch. All of the steering components are in good condition and except for one tie rod end seem to be oem and even the grease seals are in good condition. I pulled the gas tank and checked for trash, and it was empty when I pulled it out, I replaced the fuel sending unit while I had it out. I replaced an old aftermarket radio with a blue tooth aftermarket. I replaced the seat covers, and headliner, new vent shades, new dash cap glued in after removing dash new window scrapers and regulators, new door and window seals, new front windshield, new wipers, new horn. Pulled engine to replace sound deadening material in engine compartment, found end play on engine in excess of 10 thousandths which indicates a need for new bearings. I installed a spare 1500 cc single port engine that had new main bearings, camshaft bearings, and rings, that runs good. The original 1600 cc engine is complete except for heater boxes, used on the 1500 and is available to the winner of this auction for an additional small sum, it would seem to need to be rebuilt, but it does run. The marina blue paint is fresh and looks good, but is not show quality... The little blue vw needs a forever home...
