1971 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Westfalia Pop Top Camper Additional Info:

1971 is one of the rarest and most sought after because of it's "Crescent Moon" air intakes on the D pillars and the "Low Lights" on the nose rather than high on the grill. 1971 also introduced the front disk brakes and the last of the traditional 1600cc engines.
Engine has less then 500 miles after a major overhaul by the local VW guru, new front disk brakes, new tires, new ball joints, mechanically sound. Starts, goes and drives perfectly.
The hard wedge top with Canvas sides and back with zippered screens is in upper folding sleeping cot are all original, The screens have some worn spots and there is a patch on the left inner flap. Wedge top works properly and stays up. and has the original hold down straps.BODY CONDITION:Pretty solid and decent overall but has some surface rust/blistering around door bottom edges, rockers, wheel wells, trim edges, etc.minor bubbles/blisters starting to show under paint. Some spots have rustedthrough. It is not perfect but its not bad. If the car wer to be fullyrestored it would need to be completly stripped in a dip tank and I wouldestimate 99% would be intact. Surface rust starting around windshield and rain gutters but nothing severe.
THE BAD:This bus has no heat. There is no tube from the front to back. I live in South Florida so this is not an issue but if you live in a cold area this will need to be re-attached. The original interior rear seats and table and other camping stuff was removed by the previous owner so it is pretty empty inside except for a kitchenette which is not original. It is has new carpeting but is pretty much a clean slate.
UNDERNEATH:Floors, frame mounts, Inner Rockers, etc. are all solid and seem to be original. The front floor had two spots that had rusted through. I acid waetched the rusted areas with phosphoric acid to prevent further damage. I fiberglassed the entire tub with 2Ooz cloth and polyester resin. I covered the area with butyl rubber sound deadening mat (hushmat) then covered with new carpet. You will never have to worry about floor again.
Certainly not full restored or perfect but a nice original and pretty solid pieceto work with and when fully restored these pull in $20K to $50K
WINDOWS and DOORS:All glass/windows are solid and in great shape.Jalousie windows open and closeAll doors open, close, latch and lock with key.Side slide door works.
PAINT CONDITION:Looks decent considering above mentioned condition. Still looks very sharp ingeneral can cretainly be left as is. I acid etched the surace bubbles andcovered them with stickers to prevent further rusting. I am not trying tohide anything, I'm trying to prevent it from getting worse.
ELECTRICAL:Horn works, Gas Guage works, Lights, wipers, turn signals, emergency flasherall work. Speedometer does not work. Starter by starter button, not the keyswitch.
INTERIOR CONDITION:Front seats are overall fair shape, no rips.Headliner is a bit dated.
Other Notes/Comments:Not perfect, not flawless but would take very little to do a full on restoration or a clean slate to build your:*Cross country camper,*Surf shop delivery vehicle*Funky food truck*off-the-grid "little home"Turn key, ready to go. Pioneer Blutooth stereo, Stainless sink, vintage hot/cold water jug, Coleman stove and Coleman Lantern included.Great for a daily driver or a nice, great foundation for a full restoration to sell for more
