1984 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Additional Info:
We are selling our very nice 1984 Westy, seen in the photos. We have enjoyed it and taken great care of care it. It has 120k original miles.
We are the 4th owners of this vehicle. The first three where from the same family who purchased it new in '84 and used it in New Mexico. We bought it three years ago, and brought it in Portland, OR. It was used throughout the seasons, but stored in our heated garage. I' was very careful drying it every time it saw rain. The inside of the fiberglass topis practically perfect, no mold or other problems ever.
It is remarkably rust-free, having spent its life in NM. It has its original paint everywhere except the front, where at some point it was repainted to cover paint chips This paint is now cracking, and will need a repaint in this area. No seam rust I can see. I worked last year on the fridge, and the inside panels looked perfect. In general, there is no bondo or sparkling new paint to cover defects (which is how I wanted it in the first place).
It has accumulated over the years a number of dings, notably in the lower passenger door and the rear corners. None of these affect how the panels fit / close.
During our tenure, in the past 2 years, in addition to regular maintenance, we did the following things:
New muffler and catalytic converter.
New German canvas top
New GoWesty skylight kit
New poptop seals
New fuel lines
Installed aux battery kit from GoWesty
New main battery and aux battery
New Bilstein shocks
Rear LED lights, very bright
New fog lights
New H4 Hella headlights and PIAA bulbs
New propane tank
New LED dimmable interior lights over the sink and at the head of the bed. These were very expensive, and work fantastic!
New metal heater valve, reconditioned heater, new foam, new flap wires, etc.
New rear heater valve
All upholstery removed and steam cleaned, and new foam throughout
Got a pair of Eurovan front seats, reupholstered in the original fabrics, very comfortable!
New radio, WB and USB input
New rear hatch shocks
New tires incl. spare
New tire chains, included
Working condition:
All electricals work except the horn. I have a spare horn
Speedometer / Odometer / clock works
It has A/C, whose electricals work, but its not cold
Fridge and stove both work
Does not leak a drop. Did a time-sert repair on the oil plug, and has been excellent since.
Installed a new water pump last year (this was the only time the van stranded us)
It starts great every time
Excellent running temperature, never overheats. Radiator fan comes on/off as designed
Passenger outside does not lock from the outside
This van has taken out to New Mexico, Northern California, Utah, Seattle and British Columbia many times. Ultra dependable and well-maintained, I'd drive it (with care, slowly) anywhere. Diving it at the speeds it wants to (around 60 mph), I get 20-22 mpg. It is driven daily, runs quiet
Included in this sale a ton of spare parts, spare arm rests, Mahle air and oil fiters, reservoir caps, cables, etc (easily $500 worth of parts)
I have many, many more photos. Please email if interested. Our price is negotiable within reason. Clean title in my name.
A Paypal deposit of $500 will be due 24 hrs after the auction's end. Vehicle should be picked up at Vancouver, WA by Friday, August 10th. I can assist picking you up from PDX airport if necessary.
