1970 VOLKSWAGEN STD. BEETLE – 48 YEAR OLD UNMOLESTED ORIGINAL- BARN FIND!DELIVERY AVAILABLE
I discovered this one owner completely original VW bug 25 miles north of Big Timber, Montana last summer. The owner had driven this bug out from Pennsylvania in the late 70’s to become a rancher. The bug had been parked since 2006. Remarkably it still ran, but like any vehicle that had been sitting for many years, it needed freshening.
This bug is a UN-restored original and I have chosen to “Preserve” this vehicle and not restore it. I love the Patina! The dings, scratches and horse chew marks tell a wonderful story and give this bug character like no other. The owner had re-carpeted the bug and replaced the seat covers with correct factory style covers about 15 years ago and they are in great condition. The headliner is original with a couple of tiny holes but still tight and usable. The body as I said before shows great patina and has only flash rust which I have polished, sealed, and waxed. Following is a list of maintenance performed on this bug to insure a FUN DRIVING EXPERIENCE for the next owner:
5 new Classic all season radial tires
All 5 wheels stripped and repainted the correct silver
Inner and outer wheel bearings and seals replaced on all 4 wheels
New brake shoes front and rear
2 new master cylinder brake light switches installed
Brake fluid replaced
Steering stabilizer and bushings replaced
Electric sockets, fuse holders, horn, lighting and wiring cleaned and attended too as needed
Crack in original windshield repaired
Original speedometer was locked up at 88844 miles and replaced with a correct working speedometer showing 37108 miles. Due to age of vehicle, it will be sold as “Miles Exempt”
Adjusted valves and replaced valve cover gaskets
Changed out old gear lube and replaced with Swepco gear lube
Changed oil, cleaned filter and oil bath air cleaner
Cleaned and detailed vehicle inside and out plus a number of little things I have forgotten
The bug runs great now and will cruise at 65 miles and hour on the flats and get great gas mileage doing it! I drove it over Teton Pass, at 8432 feet of elevation and it pulled the 10 percent grades at 35 miles and hour. The heater blows nice and hot and all the electrics work, headlights, brake lights, horn, dome light etc. The radio works but being AM only buzzes for me as we don’t have an AM station at my shop.
If you are looking for a “Trailer Queen VW”, this is not the bug for you. But if you want a truly original bug with character that wears its history, this is your bug!
Don’t hesitate to pick this bug up and drive it home! It runs like a Volkswagen and will go anywhere you point it. Auto Brokers of Jackson is located in Driggs, Idaho 83422, about 30 miles from the Jackson Hole, Wyoming airport and about 60 miles from the Idaho Falls, Idaho airport.
