1966 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic Full Custom Bagged Chopped 56 Oval Glass Top Additional Info:
I am putting my awesome VW out on the market, to free up some room in the garage. I purchased this car December 2014 and have owned it since. This is one cool car that will draw the attention of man or woman, young or old. We've used this car to promote my small business, and it never disappoints. By far the best bang for the buck, when you want to draw serious attention at a local show, or just cruising it down the highway. This car was originally built on the West coast, before making its way to me about 10 years after the original build. I have quite a bit of paperwork that goes with the car, showing different parts and work done to the car. It only has a salvage title because the chassis was swapped out for another, but customized, Dub Rod Chassis that was built by Airkewld, using another 1966 chassis. I have the paperwork tying the chassis to the body and they both check back to a 1966. This chassis uses bags in the back and air shocks in the front. Laid all the way down the narrowed CB Performance front beam is only about a half inch off the ground. The top was chopped, before the original build was done, but who ever did it still amazes even the toughest body men. I believe it's truly one of the best chop tops that you will find, and the oval glassin the 1956 top makes it that much cooler.
Since I've taken ownership, I have replaced just about every worn or cheap part that was on the car, and replaced with the best I could find. The list of stuff would take me a night to type, but I'll at least try to highlight the major stuff.
All ball joints, bushings, seals, etc were replaced less than 1k miles ago. I also had 145 & 165 radial tires custom made with 1.5" whitewalls, from Diamondback tires. The Mooneyes steering wheel is new/old stock that replaced the identical one, minus the pitting. I replaced the existing midrange speakers with two sets of Hertz components that are powered by a JL 400/4. I also added a ver efficient Cerwin Vega 500/2 amp to power the subs. What really made the system come to life is the Pioneer Stage 3 professional head unit. This head unit sounds amazing, with a lot of RCA output, 16 band EQ, and much more. The stereo system will definitely surprise you withclean mids and highs and a great punch. The adjustable bass knob makes it easy to changegenres of music.I also added an aftermarket speed shifter that I added a custom made knob to. The knob was built in Australia and it took months to get. It is 70mm with an Australian Red Back Spider setting on white powder with red underneath. Very nice piece. We also replaced the door poppers with a new set of solenoids and there own key fob for driver and passengerdoor pop option. Steel/Rubber running boards were replaced with powder coated black aftermarket boards with matching sill plates. Next to the head unit is a switch that lights up some accent LED lighting on the interior that looks great at night, withoutover doing it. To handle all of the power demands, I installed the biggest compu-fire alternator that you can get for this 12 volt converter classic.
During the winter of 2016 we pulled the engine and had the original 1500cc motor professionally rebuilt to a 1600cc. The entire engine was overhauled, plus a new carb, coil, plugs, wires, upgraded oil cooler, and a new fan housing. While the engine was out we cut down stainless firewall and side panels that we wrapped in vinyl to match the theme of the interior. While the engine was being rebuilt, all of the air ride was freshened up with top-of-the-line DOT 3/8" line, the best fittings, new air engine, new compressors, new stainless steel tank, water traps, new sensors, new Slammed Specialty rear bags and Monroe front air shocks. We basically got some water in the old tank and spent a pretty penny to make it all go away and never come back, with the addition of the AVS water traps. All of the air ride works as it should, ran by three electric switches mounted under the dash, one for each front and one for both rear bags. We also installed brand new carpet and had the seats re-covered. The clutch shaft, clutch cable and throttle cable was replaced during this time. It also has a brand new Optima Yellow Top battery with Optima Battery Charger/Tender.
The car wasoriginally customizedover 10 years ago so there is cosmetic blemishes here and there, but it really just adds character to the car, while still looking awesome at a local event. Mechanically it is very sound and solid. It has no problem getting down the road, and we've taken it on many highway drives running 70+. Of course the vehicle is being sold as is, but it is a great, fun car. Mileage listed may not be correct, but that's approximately what its showing on the odometer.
