1991 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Carat Additional Info:
1991 VW Vanagon Carat. 2.1L engine. Automatic Transmission.
Runs and drives well, but the transmission has a problem shifting into third when warm sometimes. Passed smog on 5/12/17. This van is in fair condition, it has its share of scratches and dents. The interior is in ok shape. Currently registered Non-Op with a clean title in my name.
The good:
-GoWesty transmission cooler
-Electric windows work
-Electric locks work
-Cruise control sometimes works
-New water pump
-New belts
-New spark plugs, wires, cap rotor
-Fresh oil change
-Stock stereo works, but speakers are in poor shape
The bad:
-Rough idle when cold, but smooths out when warm and runs great
-The paint job is fairly poor. It appears to have been resprayed at some point and was not well done
-Sometimes when warm the transmission takes a long time to automatically shift from 2nd to 3rd. Manually shifting into neutral and back into drive it shifts from 2nd to 3rd just fine. Also if accelerating with your foot to the floor it seems to not have any problem shifting from 2nd to 3rd.
-Wrong front seats (brown) and in ok but not in the best shape
-Passenger floor is some kind of weird bamboo thing thats not in the best shape
-Some rust around windshield
-Missing the jump seats
-A/C not working and missing some of the rear overhead ducting
-Small oil leak
-Tires are old, lots of tread but at least 10 years old
-Wrong wheels, steel not the correct Carat ones
-Wrong bumpers, the old steel style not the correct Carat ones
-Dent behind driver side door
