1974 VW Type 28 Restored Micro Bus Tons of New Parts & Pieces

I am pleased to offer this very nicely restored 1974 VW Bus. Bus was re-painted and restored in 2012. Odometer shows 2814 +/- which is likely 102,814 miles (cannot confirm). Mileage since restoration is under 1000. VIN # is 2242081582.

This is a #’s matching Type 28 bus as seen in the picture showing the engine VIN # matching the vehicle VIN #. Previous owner estimates that he spent at least $15,000 restoring this bus (receipts included).

New parts include:

– 5 new tires

– New shocks

– New brakes and brake lines

– New rubber seals

– New carpeting

– Newly upholstered seats

– New door skins

– New door pulls and levers

– New window cranks

– New seat belts

– New black and blue tiger print rug headliner (front section only)

– Tinted windows

– Much, much more

Comes with original jack and owner’s manual as well as workshop manual and a stack of invoices for parts etc.

Previous owner installed a retractable gaming table in the place of the middle bench seat. The bench seat is included and can be re-installed if you wish. Also, an aftermarket roof rack was added along with a black and blue tiger print headliner (front section). Owner is willing to throw in the foam prop surfboard (not real) because it’s just too cool. The bus is currently registered and titled in MD (vintage plates).

Driving Impressions: the bus drives as you’d expect a ’74 VW bus to drive. It’s not a fast experience and there is planning required when braking but overall, it is tons of fun. Smiles and high signs everywhere this bus goes.

Flaws: there are some minor cosmetic flaws as you’d expect from a non-concours VW bus. A few chips here and there etc. Overall, I was impressed with the condition of the exterior, interior, driving experience, documentation, fun factor etc. Bus shows very well and is definitely a head turner and smile maker.

Details on the Type 28 Microbus: The Microbus; 7 Passenger, also known as an “11 window bus, was essentially a Kombi with a much nicer interior (vinyl or cloth instead of the grey masonite) and 2-tone exterior paint choices. Like the Kombi, the rear seats could be removed, but the Microbus was primarily designed to carry passengers, not cargo. In the 7-passenger Microbus, the back seat is a full bench seat, but the front seat is a “walk-thru” configuration, and the middle seat is only 2/3rds length to allow access to the back seats, from the front seats.
