1990 Volkswagen Tristar Double Cab Syncro Additional Info:
Here is a rare opportunity to own 1 of approximately 500 Tristar Syncros.
This example is a former Swedish fire department vehicle, and as such has been extremely well-maintained.
What makes it extra special is the condition of the body, which shows little-to-no signs of seam rust, little to no surface rust elsewhere, and certainly no rot or significant corrosion elsewhere.
It runs and drives well, and presents very well in the current day-glow red with yellow stripe.
This paint scheme is not the original color, as this was originally a white Tristar that was painted after acquisition for use as an emergency vehicle. It draws significant attention when being driven in Portland Oregon, frequently the subject of selfies, and many conversations with passers-by.
Mechanically it is sound, and would benefit from maintenance befitting a car that was taken out of service years ago and stored indoors in a private collection. The 2.1L gas DJ engine is believed to be the original engine, and we can verify this if desired.
This Tristar has both front and rear diff locks, both of whichare operational.
Shifting deliberately, the transmission works very well. Shifting with gusto (not an intended driving style for this transmission) yields some grinding from 1st to second. There is typical T3 play in the gearshift mechanism, and once accustomed, shifts are crisp and as expected with any bus or truck of this era.
This particular Tristar is fitted with highly desirable sliding rear windows on the driver and passenger rear doors, diamond plate aluminum bed protector, front and rear blower fans, quad fog lights with plastic surround, power steering and brakes, and the original Blaupunkt radio (with manual).
There are modifications to the wiring to accommodate sirens and a loudspeaker, previously removed, with the controls remaining. Mounting holes remain drilled into the drip rails to accommodate the siren cluster.
Pictures show the overall condition, which is good to very good. Apart from a couple minor scratches away from the bed, some typical chipping on the bed edges and corners, and some minor dings, the body is in very good to excellent condition.
Original manuals and tools are included, as well as quite a few records, and we are glad to share copies of these on request.
This Tristar carriesVIN#ZZZ24ZLG019780. In the listing form, we had to enter all zeroes since this is a Swedish market vehiclethat has legally been imported into the USA.

This is a highly collectible classic, which we believe has very strong potential for significant appreciation in the medium term. Do not miss out on this Unicorn!
