1971 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic Additional Info:
Awesome convertible for sale. This is a 1971 Super Beetle, but still has the flat windshield. Most (not all) of the car is the original equipment. The odometer shows 21000+, but I think it has turned over at least once. Generally, the car has been and continues to be cared for, either in a garage or under a car cover. There are a couple of points:
Engine - Car runs well enough to use as a daily driver (~25 miles each way). I have driven ~1500 miles since the last oil change and haven't needed to add oil. One of the pictures is of the engine running. Very clean engine.
Electrical - The radio turns on but I haven't heard any sound, so there may be something wrong with the radio or just a loose connection. The reverse lights don't operate (even after changing light bulbs). There is a modification (the previous owner had to add a light to indicate when high beams are on - it is near the ignition key).
Brakes - Recently had wheel cylinders replaced.
Steering/suspension - It has the "Super Beetle shimmy" around 45 mph and up, but not as bad as others I have driven. Steers straight otherwise. Rear shocks sit low.
Convertible roof - Needs work. Pictures show tape and other fixes. At least one hinge (left side) was frozen (now loose) such that some repair (welding?) is needed to operate correctly. The misalignment of the roof is affecting how the windows operate.
There are two spots with damage on the body. The front and the back. The spot on the front affected the operation of the handle, so I had to remove the handle. The rear bumper was damaged enough to bend the left support.
The title says rebuilt salvage, and the odometer reading is "exempt".
