1972 Volkswagen Squareback Additional Info:
I am reluctantly selling my beloved VW Type 3 Squareback. We just had a baby and the wife said the VW has got to go! This is a prime, all original rare car. When I originally purchased this car,I searchedfor a very long time to find a clean, complete type 3 with minimal rust and that had not been bastardizedin any way. This car was the most complete and unmolested one I could find in southern California, which makes it the perfect car to give some TLC and make this gem really shine. With very little effort, this car can be made perfect.Unfortunately, there is little history available for this car, but its condition is evidencethat it was not abused and was well cared for. It was apparently purchased originally from Sayer's Volkswagen in Council Bluffs, IA. The odometer reads 93,849. It is possible this is the actualmileage, but doubtful. There is no way to know if it has flipped over. If it has, it was only once due to the tightness and condition of the vehicle.
Recent work performedon car:
New Boge front shocks, new steering damper, new inner and outer front wheel bearings, new front brake rotors, new front brake pads, less than 100 miles on valve adjust and oil change, all new front & rear Hella (OEM) lenses.
Please read carefully:
The Good:
This is a very clean car that is in very good structuralcondition with very little surface rust. I drives, runs and shifts perfectly. It has the original fuel injection system and it starts easily, idles and runs extremely smooth. The compression is 150/150/147/150. The steering is tight and accurate. The transmission is tight and shifts smoothly. There are no oil leaks from the engine or transmission. There are less than 8,000 miles on the tires which are less than 2 years old. The orange 76 ball on theantennais included!
The Bad:
The seats need to be re-stuffedand re-covered and replace the door panels. There are a few cracks in the dash (see photos). The plastic horn button needs replacement (horn works though) and the steering wheel is cracked. The clock is inoperative.Original AM radio installed, but does not work. The passenger side mirror is rusty and needs replacement. The Windshield wiper arms are rusty and need paint.
The Uncertain:
At the last oil change (about a month ago), there was evidence of metal on the oil screen. It was a single piece about the size of a match head. There was the typical grey powdery looking material on the drain plate. Although the engine runs strong and cool, this is a sign of unusual wear and should be addressed at some point in the near future. This condition is being fully disclosed to the best of my knowledge and by bidding on this car you understand that this is potentially a costly issue with the engine.
