1959 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Additional Info:
Here is your opportunity to own a low mileage rare optioned early VW bus. April of 1959 Double door, walk thru, high hinge bus with just 56,XXX original miles. Still powered by her original 36hp engine (not bastard engine) and original gear box. 6 volt charging system. All 5 original wheels with the correct date stamps. This bus runs and drives very well. Please keep in mind it is all original and it is a Volkswagen so it does drip a few drops of oil here and there. Still intact on the front drivers side windshield is the NC inspection sticker that expired in 1969 (see photo).
Brief history: This bus started life as a commercial panel in 1959. Most of the miles that are on it today were acquired in the first 3 years of its life. It was traded-in to VW of Greensboro NC in 1962 and was later resold to a new owner in Greensboro who drove around 9k miles until 1969 when the bus was parked and not touched again for 45 years. I purchased the bus a few years back, got it running nicely and completely rebuilt the brakes, fuel system and installed new tires. The front seats were custom reupholstered, the rear seat is still sporting its original fabric and was restitched when the new front seat covers were installed. The paint is completely original with the exception of the areas where the commercial logo's were removed in the 60's. Drive as is or completely restore. The largest rust areas are in front of both of the rear wheels, a small seam around the battery tray area and surface rust on the top. There are no holes in the top, just surface rust. There is also a rust seam where the drivers side floor meets the seat pedestal and a few small holes in the belly pans. This is a very solid vw bus, not every day you see a double door bus with a walk thru.....not to mention the low miles. I'm sure I have forgotten something. Please email your questions and I will get back to you as quickly as possible. Thanks for looking.
