1973 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic Additional Info:
A TRUE BARN FIND . . . I know this term gets misused often . . . but I can assure you that this Super Beetle has been stored in my garage since late 2003. (The state inspection sticker, county tax stamp, and accumulated dust are proof)
We have owned this car since May of 1999. It was an older restoration and we bought it for our daughter to drive while she was in school. Later, it was my wife's daily driver until late 2003 when we parked it in our detached garage where it has sat for nearly 13 years.
The condition of this vehicle is not typical for a 43 year old vehicle. This is a southern car and there is very little rust. The floor pans are solid (see photos) and the convertible reinforcement rails are rust free. The doors open and close as they should. All the glass is good, and most of the rubber seals are serviceable.
The engine ran in 2003 when we parked the car . . . the engine can be turned over with a breaker bar. No attempt has been made to start the engine. . .since the vehicle has been sitting for 13 years it should be expected that at a minimum that the engine will need to be refreshed and the carburetor (a weber 2 barrel) be rebuilt. It should also be understood that the fuel system will need to be flushed and the fuel tank may require professional cleaning or replacement.
A custom fit tow bar is included in the sale. I would recommend that the buyer trailer the car rather than tow it since the tires are at least 13 years old. Even though they hold air they should not be trusted at highway speeds.
This would be a great car to freshen up and drive as a survivor. It would also make a excellent candidate for restoration as it is complete and solid to start with.
Upon receipt of full payment the buyer will receive a bill of sale and clear Virginia title for this vehicle. I will not consider delivering or making arrangements for shipping. The buyer will be responsible for pickup and/or shipping. I can assist in the loading the car.
This car is also listed for sale locally…I reserve the right to end this listing early. Thanks for looking. Please don't bother wasting my time or yours. I don't need help selling this car.
