1971 Triumph TR-6 Additional Info:
1971 TRIUMPH TR-6 CONVERTIBLE. ORIGINAL COLORS OF OLDE ENGLISH WHITE WITH BLACK TRIM. 4-SPEED WITH FACTORY OVERDRIVE GEARBOX. STANDARD WHEELS. MATCHING NUMBERS. VERY GOOD DRIVING CAR FOR MINOR IMPROVEMENT. 83K ORIGINAL MILES.
Offered for sale, from KURT TANNER MOTORCARS, is this very decent, desirable early TR-6 with the high compression engine and factory-fitted overdrive unit. This car was recently purchased out of a mid-west car collection where it was stored for the past 20 years. It appeared to have left the factory in the Olde English White/ Black trim color scheme. A simple, crisp and clean combination for a TR-6.The body on this car appears entirely rustfree and relatively straight. All of the panels open and shut fine. At one point, it was painted in it's current white with a hint of metallic, which was only a modest job. There is small evidence of some body repair around the passenger B-post/ front fender area (pictured), but the rest of the car looks very nice. The car today shows some usual dings and scratches but presents OK from 10 feet. The car's underframe is very solid and straight with no rust or accidents.
The car's mechanicals are very good. The engine starts easily on choke, revs well with good oil pressure(40-60psi), no smoke or noises, runs cool, and pulls hard through it's good-shifting 4-speed gearbox, making all the right sounds. The overdrive unit isn't currently hooked up electrically, but may work fine once in operation. The clutch bite is low on the pedal, but engages fine and doesn't slip. The brakes are spongy and could benefit from a service/bleeding. The rear end sounds fine. Recent work by us includes a cleaned and resealed gas tank with new sending unit and replacement of the main fuel line and a fresh battery. The car drives pretty well for an 83,000-mile TR-6. I'm sure it could use a few miscellaneous suspension bushes and a good lube/greasing of the chassis parts. I would recommend a full service before the car is put into regular use since it's been sitting for a while...The car's engine bay is highly original with it's factory white OEW paint and would respond well to a simple cleaning, paint touch-up, and detailing of some items.
The car's wheels still retain the original 5 brushed aluminum beauty rims. The current tires are old and should be replaced.
The car's interior appears to have had re-upholstered seats in black vinyl, a interior new panel kit, and a newly-installed solid teak dashboard. The car is also provided with a new black loop carpet kit, expensive and correct reflectorized soft top (new in the box), new LH and RH dashboard crashpads, new windshield seal, door seals, newer trunk kit, box of misc.spares, and an excellent original black tonneau cover.
There are a typical few small cracks in the top dash pad.
The tachometer fitted is from a TR-4. The car's key start ignition needs attention/cleaning. The car will currently start on a hotwire. The trunk lock assembly is missing, but available.
The car is fitted with a good -sounding, free-flow Monza exhaust tailpipe set-up.
Overall, this desirable, early, matching numbers, high horsepower TR-6 with factory-fitted overdrive is a very nice combination. This very decent solid car can be enjoyed as is, while some improvements are being made. It would benefit eventually from a good repray. It also includes some new interior/cosmetic items and a new top.
