1971 Triumph TR-6 Additional Info:
My '71 TR6 (overdrive), originally a US market car exported to Canada a few decades back, is in need of a new home. It was re-imported to the US in 2012 after I purchased it in BC in Canada, aiming to drive and enjoy it on a regular basis, and do a frame-up restoration around about now (2020-ish). Commitments and business demands have put pay to that and show no sign of going away. So its unfortunately the right time to find a new home for her. She is driven frequently, and definitely not left to sit in a dark corner.
- '71 TR6 Overdrive (overdrive working well, on 3rd and 4th)
- Original color OE White, was painted black circa 20 years back (according to the seller in BC). Paintwork is very presentable and shines up well. The hood has some scuff marks on the paint.
- Fitted with turbine-style 14" alloy wheels from a 240Z, and 205/70R14 tires (not by me!). Spare is correct 15" steel.
- Original Stromberg 175CDs replaced with a pair of new old-stock SU HIF44s, re-needled to suit the TR6.
- TR6 was fitted with a factory replacement head at some point (part number is that of a factory replacement head) which has not been skimmed. Compression is healthy. In addition, the cam appears to be a mild performance item (though this has not been confirmed). Definitely has a bit more get-up-and-go than I am used to with other bone-stock carb'd TR6s.
- Electric fuel pump fitted after suspected fuel vaporization issues (turned out to be caused by an incorrectly routed metal fuel line, and not a 'hot mechanical pump'. Electric pump has been left in place.).
- New standard ride-height coil springs were fitted in this year to bring the ride height up from not much at all to "standard".
- Both front fenders are fiberglass - came that way when I purchased the car in Canada.
- Exhaust incl. muffler is sound and leak-free.
- Soft top (unlined) has a zipped rear window. Could do with replacement at some point (vinyl has shrunk very slightly but still does its job!).
- Soft top storage cover ("boot") not present.
- Fitted with front lip spoiler (not correct for the year - introduction was '73!).
- Trunk lid has a chrome luggage rack fitted.
This is a very usable and everyday presentable TR6. While not a show car, it is readily usable with a smooth overdrive, lovely exhaust note. Mechanically all works (engine, overdrive, gearbox, differential all sound). The interior could do with a set of new carpets to make the interior a little more welcoming for now. The seats show signs of age, though do not have tears. Door cards are in good order. The gas tank is leak-free. The dash has the usual age-related slight cracks in the veneer, and was to have been replaced at restoration - but does pass casual inspection. The overdrive interlock switch is intermittently faulty - an additional "lockout" switch has been fitted in the interim.
