1969 Triumph TR-6 Additional Info:

Smitty’s Classics is offering for sale at a no reserve auction a classic 1969 Triumph. According to what we have found, there were around 2000 TR6’s imported to the US in 1969, and a small handful are still on the road today. This Triumph has been in the same family since August of 1986. We acquired it in July of this year.

The previous owner kept a very extensive history of maintenance that has been performed on this car and we have invoices dating back to 1986. The TR6 started its life as a light Yellow car and sometime around the early 1990’s was painted dark gray just as it is today. For being almost 20yrs old, the paint has held up and still looks good for its age. The paint still has a good shine and is still a head turner. The car received new carpet around 2012, and we have just installed a panel and seat cover kit from Moss motors specific to the TR6 last week.

This TR6 is free any major body damage. Doors, trunk and hood all line up nicely. Doors shut good and solid with no rattles. All the chrome polished up very nice. The convertible top frame is still in great working condition, itoperates smoothly, and has a new canvas top specific for the TR6 from Moss Motors. The Car does come with what appears to be an aftermarket hard top. Although, the fit isn’t perfect, it matches to the Triumph very well.

The motor runs and sounds great. The gear box shifts smooth through all the gears, brakes and clutch all feel great, and the car runs down the road very nicely. According to the paper work, new tires were put on in November of 2011 and according to the previous owner, have very little time on them. He parked the car in early 2012 were it was until I picked it up July of this year. If you are looking for a great example of British motor history, in a fun little package, then this is the car for you.

Although most cars require years of collective nostalgic reflection to earn collectible status, the Triumph TR6 was considered a modern classic throughout its entire 1969 to 1976 production run, a distinction that it still holds today. With its timeless styling, sturdy build, throaty six-cylinder power and moderate price tag, it represents a hardy line of mass-produced British sports cars of an era gone by.

Fitting its upscale six-cylinder demeanor, the TR6 had several standard features not common among mass-produced roadsters, including the fully independent suspension, full instrumentation set in a walnut-veneer fascia, leather wraps for the steering wheel and shift knob and adjustable bucket seats; traditional wire wheels and an attractive steel hardtop were optional. Although the 2,473-pound carbureted TR6 was down 40 horsepower from its injected sibling, it still acquitted itself with a 10.7-second 0-60 mph time and a 109-mph top speed, and its throaty exhaust note, and torquey demeanor offered the illusion of great speed.
