1974 Triumph TR-6 Additional Info:
45 years ago in a small West Virginia town, five or six of us high school guys bought inexpensive British cars to fix up and drive. We appreciated muscle cars and drag racing, but liked sports cars and Watkins Glen better. One particular friend owned a TR3, then a TR4, but later yearned for a TR6 once they appeared. Decades later he could afford one, and after a long search, he purchased this one 15-20 years ago. It was a fine, rust-free example sporting the beautiful paintwork still seen, meticulously maintained by its prior elderly owner. My friend went on to devote many hours and considerable expense to get it "just right". He drove it around town during good weather on a regular basis. As fellow 60 year olds, we mocked him when he drove like a lunatic to get it back in the garage at the first sign of rain. He was very proud of this car, and had only a small list of things left to do to the car--replace the dash board and padded dash top, install better seat belts, convert remaining hoses to correct green color, get one gauge to light up, etc. He bought all the necessary parts from the Roadster Factory to complete the final 5%. Unfortunately, he became very ill and the car sat unfinished in the garage stored with the new parts for several years. When he passed away at too early an age, his family offered me the car and parts, and I bought them. I completed the final 5% and took care of a few other odds and ends, and it is now time to find this wonderful car a new owner.
The paintwork on this car is way above average, as you can see. I took pictures of every inch of the body. No rust ever underneath or in the trunk. 5 new Goodyear Redband tires have minimal wear. Beautiful dash, gauges, rear mirror and dash pad. Original door panels and seats are in great shape with only a couple of seat tears needing repair. Carpet appears new. All gauges, lights work.
New parts installed in the last year by me include:batterybrake rotors, calipers, pads, master cylinder, slave cylinderstainless brake hoseswheel bearingshood release cable and secondary emergency hood release rodwheel cylindersgreen coolant hoseswiper motorretractable seat beltstrunk liner kitspare tire well cover
I had the radiator and gas tank professionally cleaned out, the carbs cleaned, and a full tuneup done. I replaced the aging cassette deck with a delete plate, but the antenna is intact ready for music if the new owner desires. I have taken the car on numerous trips in the last year, including a memorable trip back to our hometown to show the completed car to my friend's brother, who had sold me the car as executor of the estate. Each trip has been a delight. No problem of any sort. It runs and sounds great, shifts smoothly and is as comfortable as any TR6 can be. It should provide reliable enjoyment with minimal or no down time well into the future for the next owner.
The top is the original style with reflective tape, but there are a couple of rips with silicone repairs. It does not leak, but the new buyer might want to replace the top at some point or have the rips properly repaired. And maybe have a pro repair the small seat tears at the same time. The valve cover gasket has a small oil leak. Other than that, all the car needs is a new home.
I will include the Heritage Trust Certificate that I ordered which confirms that the car is the correct Carmine color and has the correct chassis, body and motor numbers. It does not get any better than that!
I would welcome anyone to call to discuss the car. Call Bill at 304-389-3900. Better yet, come see and drive the car in Charleston, West Virginia. You can fly into Yeager Airport (CRW) and I will pick you up in the car. Finally, I can allow the car to remain in my garage for a couple of weeks after timely payment while pickup is arranged if that helps the new buyer. Also, can be flexible and cooperative with your shipper and will be present upon pickup to observe on your behalf. I can call once the shipper is on the way for your piece of mind.
