Here's your opportunity to buy a piece of my broken dream.
Let's just say that the final departure of my significant other means I don't need two mini trucks (I guess you could say that I now have too many trucks). The two of us? What happened? Well, that's another story, but we were f*cking so god damn cute in those trucks -- her driving a '71 Datsun 521 and me driving the '76 Toyota Hilux. I mean, for f*ck's sake we were perfect...at least when it came to lookin' hot cruising in mini trucks and moving the bed across the room without us touching the floor.
Anyway...choosing was difficult, but the 521 has my heart (so the Hilux must go). This is a farm truck rescue from Bastrop where it logged around 76,000 miles (mileage is now just a hair over 80,000). Below, I've tried to touch on just about everything good or bad about the truck, but feel free to text/call if you have additional questions: 512.653.0773
MechanicalThe engine (20R), transmission (L43), and rear end (GO82 -- 4.11, 8" open diff) are in excellent shape and all maintenance is up to date. The steering is tight (no discernible slack), it tracks straight down the road, and the suspension is quiet and stable. The truck has been lowered three inches front and rear via sport Mighty Max springs in front and blocks in the rear. Driveline angle is correct and there is no vibration at any speed. The 20R engine is smooth and quiet through the RPM range, and it starts quick whether it's cold or hot. When decelerating for long periods of time at high rpms while in gear (i.e., getting off the highway), you can get a little oil smoke from the exhaust (does not smoke at idle, when cruising, or when accelerating). The L43 transmission shifts well, but you're not going to force it into doing quick shifts without a fight (if you slam shift it like a dumbass, you're going to defeat the synchros and still lose your shitty attempt at a race). Brakes are firm and stop straight. It cruises nicely at 65-75mph, but remember that this is a non-overdrive truck with a 4.11 rear gear (mileage is going to suffer at 75+ mph).
Here's a list of what's been services/replaced in the last 3,000 miles:
This is an original paint truck and it's not even close to being perfect (so don't bid if you don't like a bit of 'patina'). The paint is thin in spots, has tiny surface rust popping through all over (see pictures) with the worst of the surface rust being on the roof. The truck has zero rust through anywhere on the body (including the floorboards). It still looks great, shines up nicely, but is definitely NOT perfect by any means. There are various small dents, but again, the photos show all. The orange, brown, and white pin-striping is cracked but 100% intact. The windshield has a star crack the size of a quarter on the driver's side near the top and appears to be the result of a pellet gun or close range BB gun. Bed is solid and all rubber mounts are in good shape (removed the bed to do the fuel pump and inspected all the hardware). Passenger side mirror does not hold its position very well (especially at highway speeds).
InteriorThe interior is 100% original with the exception of the stereo and speakers. The seat vinyl is solid, but does have a few tears along seams (mainly in the middle of the backrest). Headliner is in good shape as are the visors. Dashpad is cracked in a few places, but isn't falling apart. All ventilation controls work as they should, the heat is hot, and the A/C is cold (R134). Everything else works (wipers, turn signals, dimmer switch, interior light, seatbelts, windows), including the dumb-shit seatbelt buzzer. Rubber floormat is in nice shape, but the shift boot is torn.
Well, that's that! On to the pictures!
