Ladies and gentlemen, up for a seven-day auction is a 1988 Toyota pickup extra cab deluxe model with a 5-speed 4X4 drivetrain, featuring the renowned 2.4L 22RE 4-cylinder engine. With only 139,000 miles, this combination of a five-speed manual transmission and the 22RE engine in an '88 model is exceedingly rare, as later '88 models switched to the less reliable V6 3.0, known for head gasket issues. This year marks the last of the superior drivetrain and the most sought-after body style, especially the extra cab, beloved by Toyota enthusiasts for its classic design—just like the truck from Back to the Future.

The original owner, who cared for this truck meticulously, kept it until he was 91 years old. He then sold it to a neighbor with a long-standing desire for it, who he promised to pass it on to once he was done with it. That time came when the original owner turned 91 he then called the neighbor to come and pick up the truck. When he arrived, he was thoroughly impressed by its condition and recent overhaul—including a professional repaint, thorough mechanical servicing, and a full tank of gas—so much so that he was amazed the neighbor not only kept his word but also filled the tank and made it look just as good as when it was new. The original owner fulfilled his promise, handed over the keys, and the truck then stood in the second owner’s garage, enjoyed for a while.

When the second owner, now advanced in age, found shifting the five-speed increasingly challenging, I happened to come across this truck and was immediately captivated by its pristine condition and rarity—especially upon discovering it was for sale. I purchased it from the second owner. While I initially planned to keep it, I am currently restoring a 1987 SR5 for my son, so now it’s your chance to own a remarkable vehicle. Bid confidently—my 100% positive feedback on eBay and reputation as a power seller confirm that what you see is precisely what you get, with no surprises. The odometer shows just over 129,000 miles. The second owner replaced the cluster because one of the gauges stopped working. The original odometer display reads 139,000 miles, while the installed cluster shows 129,000 miles; this mileage was the closest mileage available matching the vehicle’s original mileage at the time of purchase. A Carfax report indicates a discrepancy due to an error during a Walmart service, where an extra 100,000 miles were falsely added.

We are working to correct this, but until then, the mileage is listed as "unknown."

Condition-wise: the entire undercarriage is solid and rust-free. The bed is in excellent condition—no rust anywhere, which is exceedingly rare for these trucks. The rest of the body is equally rust-free, with no accident history. I hold a clean, clear Colorado title. This Toyota pickup is finished in its original blue color with original Toyota deluxe style decals, and only one repaint in its entire life. The paint shines brightly with only minor imperfections from previous minor hail damage that was unrepaired during repainting. These imperfections are barely noticeable. The interior is immaculate—no rips, tears, or stains on the seats or carpets, and the headliner, door panels, and trim are all well-maintained. The original rear shelf in the extra cab remains intact—an uncommon find. I also have the original jack, tool set, and spare tire. All glass is in excellent condition, with only minor nicks on the front windshield molding. The engine bay is pristine, with no leaks, and the transmission shifts smoothly through all gears. This truck is road-ready and reliable for long-distance drives. Four-wheel-drive functions perfectly; the entire electrical system is flawless. These trucks are becoming increasingly rare, and this example represents the last of the best, with the most desirable engine and configuration. I also have the original books, manuals, and original sales contract from the dealership. Don’t miss the opportunity to own this exceptional vehicle. Check out the video linked below Experience the trucks condition through a comprehensive walk-around, startup, and test drive, showcasing fully operational lights. Enthusiasts will be impressed by the footage. Turn up the volume and prepare to be amazed! If the link doesn't work, simply copy and paste it into your browser.
